Mangalore: Boat capsizes near Kannur - Two feared drowned

Mangalore, Sep 10: Two persons were feared drowned after a boat capsized near Kannur here on Wednesday September 10.

It is said that Joachim D'Souza (60) and Bhima (25) were ferrying towards Kannur from Ablamagaru Gatti Kudru by boat, when the incident occured.

Another person, identified as Ganesh, who was accompanying them, swam back to safety, while Joachim and Bhimji were pulled in by the currents.

Joachim, a resident of Gatti Kudru, Bhima from Haveri and Ganesh were crossing over to the side to collect stones to repair a road. It is learnt that Joachim's son is to be married on October 5, and as the condition of the road at Gatti Kudru was bad, Joachim decided to repair it himself, and for this purpose the trio were going to Kannur to get stones. On the way back, the boat was overloaded with seven sacks of stones and hence it capsized, sources said.

Fire personnel rushed to the spot and rescue operation is in process.

    Joachim Uncle presence was the inspiration for us to visit our granny's place. With his demise we have lost a strong pillar in our family. May god give strength to Kishore, Kiran, Deepa, Darvi & Ranja to bear his Loss. May his soul rest in peace.
