Mangalore/Udupi, Sep 7: "The case against Karthik Gowda, son of D V Sadananda Gowda, will bear no effect on the Narendra Modi-led union government. As the case is under investigation in the court, all will have to wait until the judgement," said former Karnataka state chief minister and senior BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa.
He said this during his first visit to Mangalore and Udupi after becoming BJP national vice-president. He was welcomed at the airport by senior BJP leaders on Saturday September 6.
However, addressing a press meet in Udupi, he did admit that the Karthik Gowda case had broughtembarassment to the BJP to some extent.
"The case has brought embarassment to the party to some extent. This is a well-planned conspiracy to slander the name of a respectable minister and the party. We will fight the case through legal means only," he said.
He said that loss amounting to several crores of rupees had occurred in north Karnataka due to torrential rains but the state government has miserably failed to manage the situation. "The state government has not submitted a report on the estimated loss to the union government," he added.
He announced that he would undertake a tour of Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga and Bijapur from September to study the damage caused by heavy rains and bring it to the notice of the union government.
He further informed that the union government had decided to shut down Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF), but after holding talks with the petroleum minister, a memorandum has been submitted urging to take measures to keep MCF running.
Before arriving in Udupi, Yeddyurappa sought blessings at Kollur temple.
