Udupi, Sep 6: Mohammed Shamil, who has been accused of plotting a plan in connivance with a police constable to blackmail a man by threatening to post morphed nude photographs of his daughter in social media and collecting Rs 25 lac from him in the bargain, has been arrested. On being produced in a court, Shamil was remanded in judicial custody till September 18.
Sudhir from Hangarakatta, a police constable who had hatched the said conspiracy and who stands suspended, is still evading arrest. The police are trying to locate his whereabouts.
Shamil and Sudhir had reportedly edited a photograph of a person's daughter to look like her original photograph in the nude, and then forced the concerned to cough up money to avoid the photo from going public. The man had mortgaged his house to raise a loan and paid a sum of Rs 25 lac to the duo.
After coming to know that he had been duped, the man had complained to the human rights council. Though he was repaid the money, he approached higher officials in the police department, who suspended the accused cop.
