Mangalore: Failure to curb disturbances in Ullal - policemen transferred

Mangalore, Sep 5: Observing that Ullal police have failed to contain unsavoury incidents occurring there since some months, city police commissioner, R Hitendra, has transferred Ullal police inspector, Dharmendra, as well as police sub-inspectors from the station, Ramesh Hanapur and Satish Kumar, to the office of the commissionerate on temporary basis.

In their places, Rajendra, who hitherto was working in crime branch Suratkal, and Panambur police sub-inspector, Bharati, have been posted.

These transfers have also been made on ad hoc basis, it is gathered.

Meanwhile, state health minister, U T Khadar, said that it is clear from the incidents occurring in Ullal and surrounding areas since the last some weeks that some unseen hands are working to create chaos in the area. He said that those who are able to provide information about the culprits involved with these incidents will be rewarded, and the details of informants will be kept a guarded secret.

He also called upon police officials to convene meetings of local leaders and work to earn the trust of the people.

Ullal always has remained a " Sensitive " area for Communal issues, for quite some time now. I am afraid if things will work out better, by transferring Police officers.! My strong feelings is that some under current of some group that could be behind these repeated issues. Let us not start politicizing issue but start working on how to resolve this issue. My feeling is that, these kind of disturbances are not solely because of lack of Police action but because of lack of tolerance in local people towards each other & that is a great cause of concern.
But with Police Officials like our Commissioner R. Hitendra, we know we are in safe hands. Iron Lady Police Official - Ms. Bharathi coming to Ullal is a good sign too.
Let us hope that Peace prevails soon in Ullal and around.

Even thought lay people like us may not be able to make any statements on issues like these, all that I know is that in Mr. Hitendra, The Commissioner of Police, Mangalore has an excellent track record and is known to be a very good and efficient officer and it is said that nothing escapes his attention.

The town of Ullal has some history which a keen eye of a senior officer has perceived and in the best interest of the people he has effected changes in the department.

I have known Darmendra and Bharati for some time now and have no hesitation in stating that they mean business.

Bharati has been termed as iron lady in the media. I would state that she is pure steel that cannot be bent under any circumstances. She knows her job and has risen to the occasion in solving difficult situations and problems in the past.

I have every hope that situation in Ullal will change for the better.
