Bangalore, Sep 4: Two panels to probe into the alleged irregularities in the power sector and the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project implemented by Ashok Kheny’s Nandi Infrastrucrture Corridor Enterprises (NICE) Limited have been constituted by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

The official order on constitution of the two legislative assembly panels was released in Bangalore on Thursday.

Karnataka’s Energy Minister D K Shivakumar will be heading the 11-member House Committee into alleged irregularities in the power sector, including financial loss incurred to the State exchequer by purchase of power.

The House Committee has been asked to submit a report with its recommendations in three months.

The panel, which comprises six Congress legislators, would look into alleged irregularities in the purchase of power by the State from 2004 till now.

During the last legislature session, BJP Leader of the Opposition Jagadish Shettar had demanded that the scope of the committee must be extended up to last 15 years so as to cover even the Congress government and the Congress-JD(S) coalition government.

Jayachandra to Head NICE Panel

Karnataka’s Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra will be heading the second Assembly panel for probing the alleged violation of Frame Work Agreement by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE), which is implementing the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project.

The panel would probe the irregularities incurred by NICE in developing the road.

The panel has been asked to study the Supreme Court and High Court rulings on the issue and the alleged violations by NICE.

Bidar MLA Ashok Kheny of the Karnataka Makkala Party is the promoter of the NICE.

This NICE probe panel has also been asked to submit a report with recommendations in three months.

The Frame Work Agreement was signed with NICE in 1997 for developing BMIC, townships and utilities, including power and water processing plants.

Just spending money on probes and sleeping over them - better not probe at all. Extra burden on the State Treasury if results are not achieved. The committee should also find and name the power sector Ministers\officials\MLAs\NICE officials, government officials and make arrangements to charge them and recover from them lost Government funds and jail them if involved in accepting bribes etc.
    Then only it is worthwhile.
