General alert in Goa after Al Qaeda message

Panaji, Sep 4 (IANS): Goa has been put on alert after Al Qaeda chief Ayman al Zawahri said in a video message that the terror outfit would spread to the Indian sub-continent, a senior police official here said Thursday.

The general alert for Goa, along with other states, follows a communication from the union home ministry this afternoon.

"The alert involves putting reserve police troops on standby and keeping tabs on suspicious persons in respective police station jurisdictions," the official said.

No police officer was, however, willing to come on record on the "general alert".
