New Delhi, Sep 3 (IANS): The inaugural World Kabaddi League (WKL) got a big boost Wednesday after the sports ministry decided to support it to promote the indigenous sport in the country.
"We are proud to receive the government-support by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in our effort to gain prominence for the indigenous sport kabaddi," said Pargat Singh, commissioner of WKL.
"This step takes us closer to our aim of redefining Kabaddi for Indian as well as global audiences," added Pargat, a former hockey captain.
The WKL has eight franchises and is being played in a touring format and will be the first Indian sports league across 13 cities, including six in India.
