Kasargod, Aug 29: Around 30 persons were injured, five of them seriously, after a bus overturned and fell off the road near Cheruvathur here on Friday August 29.
The bus was plying from Kayyur to Kanhangad when the accident occured.
It is said that the driver of the bus veered to the side in order to give way for another bus, but lost control of the vehicle. The bus rolled down about 25 ft off the steep edge of the road and turned turtle.
Along with three passengers, driver Venu and cleaner Shyamkumar sustained serious injuries.
Some of the injured have been identified as Madhavi of Cheruvathur, Jaleel, Madhusudhan, Rakesh, Usha, Mohammed Kunhi, Ravindran, Jai Krishnan, Premalatha, Pradeep, Nizamuddin, Rameez, Reena Haridas, E P Shobha and Ramachandran. They have been admitted to a private hospital in Nileshwar.
Narayana, three-year-old Nanmaya, Krishnan and Raju were taken to Kanhangad government hospital. Some were also admitted to hospital in Cheruvathur, sources said.
As soon as accident occured, locals rushd to the spot and helped in the rescue operations.
A case has been registered in Chandera police station.
