Karkala, Aug 25: In a shocking incident reported at Garigudde, Mudaru in Bajagoli here on Monday August 25, four persons of a family, including two children, allegedly committed suicide due to problems in the family.

The deceased have been identified as Jayamadivala (43), Gulabi Madivalthi (33), Harshita (6) and Manvith (3).

It is learnt that Jayamadivala was a coolie worker who was addicted to alcohol. It is said that from many days there were frequent fights within the family. Matters got out of hand on Sunday August 24 after another fight erupted, said the neighbours to the police.

On late Monday afternoon, when Jayamadivala returned home, he found no one in the house and growing frantic, started searching for his family members. He then saw Harshita's body floating in a nearby well. Not knowing what to do, and feeling desperate at the loss of his child, he jumped into the well and died.

It is suspected that his wife Gulabi along with their children Harshita and Manvith might have committed suicide by jumping into the well at around 2 pm.

Fire personnel led by inspector Naveen retrieved the bodies from the well.

Tahsildar Raghavendra, ASP Annamalai, circle inspector Naikar, rural SI Mahadeva Shetty and others arrived at the spot.

Karkala rural police have registered a case.

Really a sad incident on Mangalore side.Udupi & Dakshina Kannada District is Highly Educated & Women empowerment place. Still peoples suicide due to Liquor & we blaming on Ruling Gov. Dear friends, we people only making strike for Petrol price hike, not for liquor price hike or ban for it.. Even liquor price is cheaper or Higher, people will drink. Even its banned, they boil own for them. So i will request to all women's that, try to implement the liquor ban rule same as in Belthangady area to all both of our District. Gov. never ban liquor, because main revenue comes from Liquor itself. Better we start it from our home itself & spread it to everywhere.. So that, altest we can save the lives of Innocent Child of future dream builders of our family as well as our nation.

Junk food is reason for obesity.
    Vehicles are reason for accidents.
    Liquor is reason for suicides.

Just think if we ban all these will there not the above. Its timed to educate people and make them responsible. We are so ignorant that we can celebrate on some ones death. We can beat girls in the name of culture. We can steal the cows from poor farmers. Where we are heading and what we are talking about. Terrorism, moral policing, religious fanaticism, is more dangerous than alcohol.

People used to take care of their family even when there was abject poverty. There was widespread poverty in Karnataka about 3 to 4 decades ago. During monsoon 50% of the households used to borrow rice from other houses and would return the same after the first crop. I am yet to see such situation now. Income of all have gone up. daily wagers also can live reasonably today. I think it is liquor which is killing most of the people. I have seen most of the daily wage workers spending 50% of their salary on liquor. Moreover, there are a lot of celebration on which people are spending a lot of money. Mehndi, Sangeet, Engagement, wedding, reception - these are the five occasions that parents have to spend money. People used to work hard in Karnataka and today I do not see that.

Although, alcohol is a problem, i strongly believe in the voice of the people. What kerala government did was not democratic at all. For that matter. The highest number of deaths in the country is because of vehicular accidents. So should the government ban vehicles?! No. Just because of a few careless people who misuse their rights, why should the general public suffer?! Having said this, It is truly sad that this family had to meet such a bitter end.

    RSRB,

I am volunteer of the movement of (JANA JAGURUTHI)'BAN ALCOHOL'In fact,a guest in the d-addiction camp organized by SKDRDP.In Belthangady Taluk, there is no wine shop sponsored by MSIL which is a credit for JJV Belthangady.

About Guj,I had so many friends from GUJ who says DRY GUJ is only for name sake and available abundantly. In fact, ruling politicians are main contractor.Ban not so effective because people,GOODANGAY and other anti- social gangs takes over illicit liquors business. On one side DRY-KARNATAKA GOOD and other side illicit Liquor sellers might take charge like GUJ.VISIT GUJARAT AND THEN ADVISE...
