Mumbai, Aug 14 (IANS): Textile and fashion designer Gaurang Shah will unveil his latest line Chitr-Sena amidst live music by renowned Hindustani classical singer Shubha Mudgal at the forthcoming Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) Winter/Festive here Aug 22.
LFW will take place Aug 20-24.
"Chitr-Sena is like prose from Indian epics, wandering into the wild and exploring the future. The weaves in Kanchipuram bestow a daringly different twist in colours and textures. It took over six months to highlight the various textures in Kanchipuram, beautifully blended with hand-weaves, traditional designs and modern artistry," Shah said in a statement.
Chitr-Sena will have some unique colour twists which include the military colours like tantubha-yellow, zyama-blue, hasti-green, ayasa-grey and kasaya-brown combined with ahead-of-its-time colours like sutara-yellow, succhaya-pink, suka-green and uditi-orange.
"My design revives the art of korvai weaving of Kanchipuram, narrating stories of the wild, woven with modern day textures and colours. Each garment narrates a story from the Indian culture and mythology. It is akin to the oral tradition of storytelling, with weavers weaving stories onto cloth," he added.
The inclusion of classical music with fashion will add grace to the presentation and gel with the music of handweaves beautifully, said Mudgal.
"I look forward greatly to an absorbing fusion of enchanting vintage weave styles and Hindustani classical music and I'm delighted to be a part of this beautiful collaboration," she said.
