Goa official, clerk arrested for taking bribe


Panaji, Aug 9 (IANS): A senior official of the local municipal council and a clerk were arrested in Goa by the state police anti-corruption bureau (ACB) for accepting a bribe of Rs.700.

Kalakar Halarnkar, a mid-level bureaucrat and chief officer of the Pernem Municipal Council was nabbed Saturday by the ACB along with a clerk Madan Desai for demanding the bribe in order to issue a no-objection certificate for a photo-studio in Pernem, a sub-district 25 km north of here.

Halarnkar and Desai have been booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.
