On July 2, several persons led by Tulunada Rakshana Vedike had complained to the police commissioner, alleging that Haseena, who was running various firms including Chintan Marketing Pvt Ltd, had duped scores of persons by giving them false assurances of providing materials for setting up self-employment ventures.
Vijaya Nair, the complainant, had stated that Haseena had met her at a Rudset (Rural Development & Self Employment Training) programme at Ujire and assured her of providing materials to start her own venture. She asked Vijaya to meet her for the quotation. Vijaya Nair got a DD from bank and gave it to Haseena to provide materials. However, Vijaya did not receive any materials even after a year had passed.
Similarly, Nazeer, a resident of Pandeshwar had alleged that he lost Rs 5 lac to Entrepreneurs' Multi Purpose Co-operative Society, of which Haseena was the vice-president. Another victim, Shivananda, who wanted to set up a gold ornaments businness, was reportedly duped of Rs 19 lac.
Based on their statements, cases were registered against Haseena in Pandeshwar and Kankanady police stations, after which Haseena reportedly went absconding, until she was arrested on Thursday.
She has been booked under IPC section 420 and will be produced in court later in the afternoon, police sources said.
