Bangalore, Aug 6: Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President Dr G Parameshwara, who turned 63 on Wednesday, has expressed his willingness to take up any assignment, including the Deputy Chief Minister, offered by the Congress high command in the future.
Dr Parameshwara, who was out of the race for the Chief Minister’s post after his shock defeat in the 2013 assembly polls from his home constituency of Koratagere in Tumkur district, said he was happy that the Congress party managed to wrest power in the State under his stewardship in the assembly polls.
''I am not bitter that Siddaramaiah has become the chief minister,” he said pointing out that only one person can occupy the post.
The KPCC chief, who was became an MLC, was addressing a function organised to distribute books and sweets to visually impaired children in Bangalore on Wednesday to mark his birthday.
Hoping that the party high command would appoint him as the Deputy Chief Minister in the future, the Congress leader said he had the desire to become the Chief Minister of the State.
''But in politics anything will happen. The Korategere constituency people had defeated me,” he said.
Dr Parameshwara said creation of the Deputy Chief Minister’s post was left to the discretion of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
He expected all ministers to perform well and deliver services to the people.
Heads of various government owned boards and corporations would be nominated after by-elections to three Assembly constituencies scheduled to be held on August 21.
The Congress leader said the party would win three seats in a big margin.
A major programme was organised at the Palace Grounds in the city to mark the birthday of Dr Parameshwara.
Tricycles, books, sewing machines and clothes were distributed to the poor and physically challenged persons during the function.
Dr Parameshwara and his wife visited Vinayaka temple at R T Nagar and sought the blessings of the God.
A large number of well-wishers,relatives, friends and party workers visited Dr Parameshwara's residence and wished him.
A large number of ruling Congress party legislators and ministers also greeted him.
Incidentally, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T B Jayachandra said he too was ready to take the job of the Deputy Chief Minister.
Jayachandra is pitching his claims on the strength of his Vokkaliga community affiliation as Dr Parameshwara belongs to the Scheduled Castes community.
But the Chief Minister and the party high command would take a final call on creating a post of the Deputy Chief Minister, Jayachandra said.
