Dubai, Aug 5 (IANS): An expatriate Indian man has been jailed for molesting two female co-workers in the United Arab Emirates, media reported.
The Indian worker, 28, identified only as S.K., groped his workmates, a 27-year-old Nepali and a 36-year-old Kenyan, who worked as cleaners, in a staff canteen in Dubai in March this year, Gulf News reported Monday.
The Dubai Court of First Instance found S.K. guilty of molesting the two women and breaching their modesty and privacy, despite his "not guilty" plea.
The court sentenced him to a one-year jail term and deportation following the completion of imprisonment.
"They ran into me in the corridor and we accidentally bumped into each other. I did not molest them... that's what I told prosecutors, I did not confess," the report quoted S.K. as saying during the court proceedings.
The two women accused S.K. of groping them and exposing himself in a vulgar manner.
The Nepali cleaner said the man molested her in the canteen when she went to have lunch.
"I shouted at him and informed my boss. The police came to our workplace and arrested S.K.," the Nepali victim said.
S.K., however, claimed that he had touched the Nepali woman by mistake.
The Kenyan woman told prosecutors that the worker groped her in the corridor and that he left her alone when she scolded him.
The convicted man has appealed and will appear before an appeal court later this month.
