Mangalore, Aug 3: "No one should ever break the law. In some of the cases, innocent people are being punished. If the complaint seems to be false, people should inform the officials at the earliest," said superintendent of police Dr Sharanappa S D, in a meeting held to receive complaints from SC/STs held on Sunday August 3 at SP's office here.

"People should give adequate proof to help clear the case. When proof is provided, it will be scientifically investigated to find out the truth. Strict action will be taken against persons who give false complaints. If any case including rape is not registered the first time, people must inform higher authorities," he added.

He also said that there will be a seminar for police officers about the newly-implemented rules and regulations. "In this seminar, information regarding various other departments will also be provided. Awareness and guidance will be given on the recently implemented rules and regulations. On August 6, a zonal level seminar will be held and after August 15, a district level seminar will take place."

Receiving the complaints of people, Dr Sharanappa said, "Zonal and taluk level complaints will be received by me at a particular assigned place in the coming days. People who stay in villages face many problems in reaching the SP office in the city. Hence, villagers can go to the nearest police station or to the taluk headquarters and register their complaint. This programme has been organized to respond to the problems of the people."

Dalit leader S P Anand, pleaded with the SP saying, "Dalit colony residents of Jatipalla, Sulya, Lalita, and Gauri were abused by land owners Sanath Kumar Rai and Jayakara who entered their home and threatened them. We complained at the police station and after one week head constable Chandappa called both the parties and declared that the case was closed. But he said that this is a civil matter and told us to go to court. This is not right. H C Chandappa has taken bribes many times to shut cases before. This has to be investigated."

Responding to this, Dr Sharanappa promised that an investigation will be held and legal action will be taken.

"In the name of helping the poor people, more than necessary interest is being collected from those who have taken loans. The government should realize this and take action against it," said Narayana.

Responding to Narayan's request, Dr Sharanappa told him to provide more proof and documents so that action can be taken against the culprits.

"Police department should become more strong. Police officials should visit schools and colleges and conduct meetings with the students and their parents. Proper action must also be taken regarding the safety of the students," said Dalit leader P Keshav.

"In this regard, we have already taken the necessary action and we are visiting the institutions," said Dr Sharanappa.

District additional SP T P Shivakumar, Dalit members, and police officers were also present at the meeting.

    As per DW yesterday’s article
"Police 'raid' prayer house, conversion claim proves false"

Kindly take appropriate action on both, one who makes false complain and those who defend the same without any proof.

Moral police drag the innocent boys and girls to the police station and give false complaint, but the police instead of taking action against such moral police for giving false complaint, they call the parents of boys & girls and send them with parents causing insult to parents and girls too. Why police never take action against any moral police for such act of moral police ?

What about the Previous False case where the police and the lawyer including the party which had given false statement takes bribe and gave a false statement. What about that Mr.SP.
And as you mentioned people should inform,so what is he duty of police then if people need to inform. First clean your department who are waiting from where they can get bribe and then your preach. In India the most corrupt people are police and lawyer as both work hand in hand. So please clean your department and then preach

I am a very senior citizen having lived in Mangalore in my green years and having received my education at the hands of the Jesuit Fathers of sacred memory.

I recall Mangalore as a very peaceful place in the twenties and thirties and an ideal town to dwell in. There was hardly any crime and the presence of the police force was hardly necessary. However - now with the influx of population and growth in industry crime does take place frequently. Murder, rape, robberies and accidents are daily occurrences.

Referring to the recent incidence in Sulia, I cannot help making a pointed reference to the allegations against Superintendent of Police Dr. Sharanappa. According to the law of the land ' A PERSON IS NOT GUILTY UNTIL PROVED GUILTY'.Dr. Shranappy has a very clean record. People in Dakshina Kannada and in Davanagere (his previous venue) hold him in high respect/esteem and the allegations against him and his staff need to be proved and it is not fair to take a judgement seat at this stage. I have no hesitation in saying that time will prove that Sharanappa has acted in good faith and as a responsible Officer and that complaints against him have no foundation.

I hope and wish that TRUTH WILL PREVAIL and that Sharanappa will continue his service in Daksihna Kannada in dignity and honour.

Police act swiftly in case conversion phobia just by a phone call. They act so swiftly much better than FIRE service.Police has to take full details of complainant and verify through sending a police man and be ready follow up action.

Police should ask the complainant to file a written complaint with any evidence attached, then only they should swing into action.
They should remember their past rulers are now in opposition.
Assembling in houses for prayers or any religious poojas is not a crime in India like in communist & some Fundamentalist ruled countries.

We need legal well qualified police force, of course not moral police who makes nuisance.

We need to form a citizen's committee drawn from across the spectrum of society to deal with these so called forced conversion complaints. The committee can then refer a case to the police only if there is merit in the complaint. This would save the precious time of the police who are understaffed as well as overloaded with serious crime prevention and investigation.

What a shame your department has done Mr. SP. What democracy we are following. Are we living in Pakistan???? Or are you allowing the fanatics be like Paki fundamentals? Stop this nonsense. How can you raid a prayer house by just receiving a false phone call? How can the above people gathered trust & believe you. I live in this peaceful country UAE where different type of people live together with peace & harmony.

Whether call is fake or genuine. Police should act immediately. They can not waste time in investigating the authenticity of call for the situation going out of control. However if the call proves fake strict action should be taken against the caller.
