Los Angeles, Aug 3 (IANS): Former "American Idol" contestant Michael Johns has died from a blood clot in his ankle.
An administrator of his fan page, Michael Johns Online on micro blogging site Twitter, confirmed the news of the Australian-born singer's death on Friday, reports people.com.
"It is with a heavy heart and inconsolable sadness that we confirm the passing of our friend Michael Johns," the administrator tweeted Saturday.
"Our family is devastated by the passing of our beloved Michael, a wonderful husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend," his family said.
"A truly great guy. Rest in peace Michael," tweeted former "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell.
Johns appeared on the singing competition show in 2008, and finished in the eighth place. After the contest, he went on to release an album in 2009 entitled "Hold Back My Heart". He also released a three song EP (extended play) record, "Love and Sex," in 2012.
The singer is survived by his wife Stacey Vuduris, whom he married in 2007.
