Goa to get research centre for cashew, spices


Panaji, Aug 3 (TNN): Union agriculture minister Radha Mohan Singh has announced that a cashew research centre and spices research centre will be established to increase cashew and spices production in the state. Singh arrived in Goa on Saturday on a two- day visit. Agriculture, fisheries and the animal husbandry department has made a detailed presentation before the minister at the chief minister's official residence.

Speaking to mediapersons, Singh said that over the last two years, the state government has not received any support from the central government in agriculture, fisheries and dairy sectors.

"I have assured the state government of full cooperation to increase production in agriculture, fisheries and dairy," he added. The minister also said that the Centre will release timely funds to the state government under various schemes. He said that the last couple of years has seen a substantial rise in rice production in the state.

The state government has demanded that the central government help the state in preservation of khazan land.

The animal husbandry department has requested for financial assistance from the central government for increase in milk production in the state. The state government also requested the Centre to consider setting up of industries for processing of the organic produce under the components of national horticulture development mission.
