Mangalore: Andrea Patrao accident - Bike rider Akash arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Aug 2: In a new development in the Urwa Store accident case that took the life of young Andrea Patrao two days ago, the police have arrested Akash Shetty, who was riding the bike.

Andrea Patrao (17), daughter of MCC Bank vice-president Alwyn Patrao, was riding pillion in Akash's bike. They were going towards Kulur, when all of a sudden Akash applied brakes, due to which Andrea lost balance and fell on to the road. A cement mixer that was behind them ran over her and killed her.

Akash was reportedly arrested on Friday August 1 night.

Incidentally, Akash has a history of accidents. As a 15-year-old, without holding licence, he had driven a Scorpio without his parents' knowlege, and killed two workers who were waiting at a bus stop at Panambur. This was on August 21, 2010.

After the Panambur accident, Akash's parents reportedly sent him to Bangalore. He came back to Mangalore recently.

Though no one in particular was blamed for the Urwa Store accident, police sources later said that Akash was riding rashly. He had rushed Andrea to hospital and then left. The police took him for questioning and later arrested him, sources said.

Spoilt rich kids, given full freedom by their parents, as it is said you are very well known by the company of friends you are in. And Andrea, was friends with this criminal Akash Shetty, who had already killed two innocent workers. It shows money after all matters, but that persons nature whether he is a good guy or not does not matter at all.

The very credibility of the Traffic Department of Mangalore will be at stake as everyone will be keenly watching the way they are going to handle AKASH's case - given his past misadventures. Three lives are already gone.....and if they cant do a damn sensible thing about it.. which alone will instill the confidence of the public...its better the whole department is made to resign en-masse and new police officials with known record of honesty should replace them.

We hope Daijiworld takes the lead in closely monitoring all further developments.

My focus was on this statement "After the Panambur accident, Akash's parents reportedly sent him to Bangalore. He came back to Mangalore recently". he killed killed two workers who were waiting at a bus stop and nothing happened to him is it ? Wow. Parents still had the luxury to send him to bangalore as if he has done achieved something great. Police we silent on this guy is it ? Wow... can n digest. He should have been behind bar for the crime killing innocent people. and this guy enjoying his life , with girls like Andrea Patrao. I think it's a credit on his cap that he was a hero kind of personality as he killed 2 people. Or else I am sure nobody will be comfortable joining such a crime personality. Instead this girl is on her joy ride with him. Still can not digest...
any ways, not sure what justice will be done and for whom. If Akash is punished, he is worth for that. but will he be able to bring back Andrea ? If justice is given to Andrea, where is she to get benefited... if police and authorities had taken a strong action against his guy, today we wouldn't have to see this day loosing another girl for his crazy driving.

RIP Dear Andrea..!! It is an irreplaceable loss to your parents, who will live with this horrific incident, till their life time.!!
It is great to hear that Akash is arrested. I only appeal to Police department, please punish this culprit with Harshest Punishment that neither he nor many other youngsters will dare commit such accidents. Since he has a history of this kind, am sure police will have to punish him and not to get carried away by his " affluent // influencing parents" who hushed up his barbaric deed last time.
Cancel his licence and dont issue him one till he improves his behavior after serving his penalty for this crime..!!

Andrea was a sweet, good-natured and well mannered girl brought up by doting parents and grandparents. She was an affectionate and hospitable child. I don't know anything about Akash but this I know, he did not ride with the intention of killing the girl. It is no person's business to judge either the bringing up or character of either the parents or victims of this incident. What one should feel is sympathy for the ones left behind and the one who will suffer guilt for the rest of his life. Incidents happen, lives can be lost. It happened to the Patrao family today and could happen to any of us tomorrow.

It is rude and harsh to make comments on the bringing up of the child and punishment for someone who already might have learnt his lesson. Andrea must have been born to make Akash change his ways...that is the way life goes and that is how incidents change our life. My condolences to Prabha and Alwyn and the Benny aunty for your loss. Andrea was a sweet child and we will all miss her and never forget her hospitality. You must be shattered and we are all with you.

Akash is a repeated Offender. It's clear from past and present records he is a dangerous driver/Rider, negligent, rash and careless, he has no respect for human lives. His driver license must be cancelled for atleast 10 years, and must be charged with all related crimes. Police must open old records to add to present one. For him he may take this as an incident. For the parents who lost their dear ones it is irreparable loss. He must learn his mistakes sitting inside the jail and repent for lives he has taken away. Know, there is no proper traffic law in India, now it is time rules must be written and enforced strictly like any other developed country.
    Rest in Peace Andrea Patrao.

Wrong upbringing by the parents. At the age of 15 killing 2 people by driving a Scorpio shows how careless these parents are! Just pampering children by providing every luxury that money can buy is not enough! Now it is time for the parents to repent for their own short comings in guiding that arrogant boy! Mangalore police are good in giving many chance for offenders again and agian.
After 2010 August offence still he was driving without license ???
Where money speaks? Now it is time for people of Mangalore to be more careful and all misdeeds to be taken to court of law so that police can take proper action where required.
I remember recently someone went to HC and them Mangalore police took action against accused till then they were not ready to arrest the culprit. Even court ordered to suspend the police too.
People please be united for a good cause and make good use of law of the land all accused should be booked, suspended, arrested whoever or how powerful they may be. We together can make a difference, I will support this kind of cause any time any where, lets be united. We don't want to loose so many innocent lives because of few parents wnats to see their children happy irrespective of others lives involved in it, we do not want them to go scot free any more.

If a person falls from back seat of two wheeler during NORMAL ride, then the fault lies with the person riding the bike. He has to ensure that the occupant is safely seated and balanced. Also, driving habit has to be suited to take care of imbalanced load to the pillion rider. If this is not taken care by the main driver, such accident can occur.
The person is definitely at fault of having not taken care of this and creating a situation of having to apply brake knowing fully well that sudden braking can cause such accident.
Let him be suffer for the fault.
In young age, especially when there is a girl at the back, person has the tendency to cause such accident by rash driving. He has to be accountable for this.

If they open up the earlier case of man-slaughter, they can find how that case was squashed without taking action against A. Shetty.
Those people involved should be taken to task and this boy should be put behind bars in a regular jail as he is a major now.

See what influence and wealth can do to subdue the police force.
If police are straight and do their duty properly, many of the crimes will be solved\many reduced.
That is why they say Police are the most corrupt followed by Doctors....

Several parties are involved in this catastrophe named Akash Shetty.

    1) Why police did not procesute him after he kiled two people in Panambur.
    2) Why his parents spolit him and gave him bike.
3)Given his track record in rash driving Andrea should have avoided riding him.
    4) Since Andrea was a minor, her parents should have picked up her up from school, or provided bus pass.

But now there is no point in spilt milk. 3 people died because of the Akash Shetty fellow.

DON'T cry over spilt milk .. a precious life has been snuffed out. I am not supporting anybody .. am neutral .. but common sense speaks that if his (Akash) parents could not control their son and correct him properly since Aug 2010 incident (3 years hence, which was futile) an opportunity which they deprived and lost .. I wonder when the senseless parents will realize it. This is mainly due to the fact that their families are affluent and stinking rich with money. They have no concern towards others. I guess Andrea was pretty aware about the history of Akash and should have applied her logic and refrained him. Sense prevails only when loss is known .. opportunity was thrown to the wind. Surely palms will be greased with the law makers and he will be released on bail if not now, surely later. Now how many more precious lives will be lost again after Akash goes scot-free to continue his erratic track record remains to be seen.

His license should be revoked permanently to save other peoples lives. At 19 he is responsible for the death of 3 persons. If it would have been other than India he would have been languishing in jail. What values the parents have given to this young boy.

In India everything is Possible if you have Money and Influence . From Police to Lawyer all are corrupted .Just pay the bribe and he will be out, In spite of not having Liscence how can he drive a bike,
Anyways the Poor girl had to pay for that by giving her Life.RIP

Arrest of this 19 years old bike driver will not bring Andrea back but, it will surely save many more from being killed by his rash driving. At-least, this time he will not have the blessing of being a minor nor will his parents be in a position to toss their wealth to protect him.

May the soul of Andrea rest in peace and her parents come to terms of living rest of their life without her.

It is a LESSON for girls not to take FREE RIDE with SPOILT Kids of Modern Generation.
It proved to be One Way Ticket for Andrea.
Keeping & cross verifying past traffic violations when issuing licenses by RTO can only stop these Dhoom Kids unless they ride without one.
Send them to a Jail term which will deter them if they do violate a ban of getting license.

Akash has given darkness to the family of Andrea. Now what are the authorities going to do, give him bail and let him go and kill more people. Put the entire family in jail for 10 years, then only there will be discipline with rest of people. Police action please, action please police.

all parties involved are equally responsible for this incident...(1) the parents of the boy despite knowing his immature nature gave him a bike (2) the girl despite knowing the nature of the boy rode on his bike (3) our system, which gives a license to a boy at the age of 18 despite knowing he has committed a serious accident at the age of 15...

Akash is a serial traffic offender must be from affluent family. That is why media is hiding his surname.
He is responsible for death of of three people.
When he was 14 he ran over two innocent poor people waiting near the bus stop.Later he managed to continue/ drive/ ride vehicle most probably without a valid license.

Mangalore police should held responsible for issuing licence to a juvenile offender whose case is still pending in court for causing death of two pedestrian.

This criminal Akash should be booked for murder along with his parents. The parents cannot shun responsibility by telling he took vehicles without their knowledge....Even 100 lashes in public will not suffice for this heinous crime. Many might not agree with my thoughts.

May we know how this lad who had killed 2 was given a licence.
What happened to the previous case of killing 2
Was his age or money involved in setting him free to be the reason for another teen death
This is an eye opener to the police , youngsters, and parents to keep such at bay.
Bangalore or Mangalore such are dangerous , they kill....... while they live .

Andrea RIP, sorry for the lose of Patrao family
Majority of the Mangalorean Catholic parents and their young children often have dysfunctional relationship. While in recent decades children adopt very progressive stance in life parents get fixated to traditional, preachy, religious church mentality. Very few parents talk to growing up children face to face or on the kitchen table especially sexually related healthy topics and how to choose friends. Once I was speaking to boys and girls of teenage in the context of preparing for Confirmation. In the context appropriate sexual knowledge was parted but some filled with scrupulosity objected speaking on this topic and complained to their parents who in turn supported their teens view. As children grow the parents need to grow up also to be sensible mentors otherwise face the consequences.

this guy does not know the value of LIFE...He would have gotten away last time because he was a minor. But now its better he spends some time behind bars...Did they arrest his Parents during 2010 incident. The archive report clearly mentioned he was WARNED by residents, then how come the parents did not know?...RIP Andrea.

This boy (Bike rider)has so much criminal records in his past, this shows his parents have not taught him some good lessons, but gifted him a good Bike for what is has done to show their richness in wealth. The current incident mayn't have happened if this boy was riding the vehicle not in a very speed, maybe.

In everyday life we see lot of 'Ameer baap ki bigadi aulad' like Aakash Shetty,,,,,,,rash & careless driving at high speed without licence- they should be booked under serious offenses and punished for life time. A young & beautiful Andrea is no more, may her soul rest in peace. Heartfelt condolences to bereaved family members & her friends.
