Yadgiri: Bravo! Pregnant woman swims across flood water for safe delivery

Daijiworld Media Network – Yadgiri (EP)

Yadgiri, Aug 1: In a brave effort, a heavily pregnant woman swam in the floods of Krishna river so that she could safely deliver her baby.

The village of Neelakantarayanagadde is surrounded by floods from Krishna river and in case she had remained where she was, her delivery would have caused problems. Like other villagers, she was completely cut off from the town, and neither could any doctor go to her. And all the while, the floods kept increasing, make things more difficult by the minute.

In such a sitution, while experienced swimmers were hesitating to step into the water, the brave woman, nine months into pregnancy, swam for 600 meters and safely reached the shore.

The woman who swam for safe delivery is Yallavva Gaddi, a resident of Surapura taluk in Yadgiri district which is flooded at the moment.

As the excess water from the Basava Sagar dam has let out into the river, people of Neelakantarayanagadde have lost contact with the outside world. As there is no facility for them to cross the river, they have to swim for about 600 meters to reach the mainland. Under such circumstances, Yellavva Gaddi along with members of her family swam on Wednesday July 30 and reached her relative's house in another village.

As there are no medical facilities in Nadugudde, going into labour may be risky and hence she had to go to town for a safe delivery. She tied tender coconut shells around her, swam and reached the shore. Without doubt, Yellavva's bravely deserves to be applauded, for she not only saved her own life, but even of her unborn baby. At the time, it is a telling example of the failure of the administration to rescue or at least provide emergency services to people hit by floods.

Unbelievable. Thankx DAIJIWORLD for reporting such untold story. This determined lady will make international newz. (Thank God, this time, it will not be some rape, murder or corruption).

A true sacrifice to give "AACHE DIN" TO HER CHILD.

She may not have a platform to speak or shout from tree top, of the act she performed.

Surely, this is no acrobatic act. She is a role model for every mother. Why gender, also for we men, to take up challenges, face the situation, what come may.

"My God, give her more, bless her abundantly. Satisfy her needs. Give her strength to bring up her family. Bless her husband and family, I humbly make this prayer, in Jesus Name, Amen"

It is shameful that even after 65 years of Independence still our Governments could not provide Medical facilities to our Villagers within the short distance where people can reach safely by road.

Appreciate your comment, but there is no point is blaming the government always !! We should do some self retrospection as to whether we have chosen the right people to rule the state or country in the past?? Every time when there is an election people vote with hope of a change but nothing changes, why?? Coz, since last 65 years we have not learnt the lesson of how to & elect right people to do right jobs !! Unless we learn that lesson first and do the needful, we can not expect the desired output mate !

undoubtedly very brave act by a pregnant lady - but if you take a step back and look at the situation, there is a sad, dark reality which our country faces even after 66 years of independence. In this day & age, we are compelling a pregnant lady to take an extreme step to swim for her and child's safety. Its very sad to know that in 66 years, we could not elect somebody who could build roadways, bridges to all corners of the country, we could not get somebody who has a grand vision of how the country should look like in another 10-15 years. Its sad to see that we dont have a nation building spirit, sad to see that we dont respect lives. In the hindsight, everything goes back to one simple fact, we dont respect the value of human lives or lives of our country men and women. Had there been some degree of responsibility from the government, we would not be seeing these days. Today we have money - all panchayats, taluks get enough money to implement infrastructure projects, still what we have is a bunch of shoddy contractors most of whom have become contractors because they did not have any other option for livelihood. In my town, most of the contractors are uneducated, no professional qualification or credentials. Government officials have no choice but to have the projects implemented by these people, who have no planning, no value for the human life and absolutely no sense of pride in what they do.

For this lady being brave is the only option.
When a person is put into a stressful situation then he/she will show their true character. She had an option of sitting at home blaming politicians, parents, husband..etc but she opted for writing her own destiny..

I salute the mother to be. Only a mother can go to the extreme for the welfare and safety of the child. That is why God is with the mother.
Mangalore ladies are not brave. These days for small small reasons they take the step of suicide instead of fighting against the problem.

Hats off to this brave lady.Nice to read something so positive rather than all the bad going on in Mangalore nowadays. swimming provides good cardiovascular benefits and allows expectant women to feel weightless despite the extra pounds added by pregnancy. Swimming also improves circulation, increases muscle tone and strength, and builds endurance.

This is where our Health Minister
can pitch in and help instead of surprise 'mid-night raids' and all that stuff which yields nothing.
Now this child to be born from Yellavva Gaddi is sure to be an 'Ace-Swimmer'.
    How you ask?
Man ever heard of 'swimming in the womb when about to come out?'...No...No?
Then hear and say I am right.
Kudos Yellava ! Hope some city
wives to deliver take a leaf out of your swimming book and do not wear the look of a lost cook....

    Langools....Not now ! Not Now!
Now delivering one is like climbing
a Mount Everest. For the male that is, here in Mangalore. So he does not venture into that heroics again.
Females ..well ...great care is taken when they cross on to the bathroom,so they do not slip and all that. There is a complete manual of do s and donts' by so many authors for pregnant ladies, that you sometimes wonder is how come we are 125 crores despite these stipulations!
    Now that is......
However, on the flip side and of times gone by I know of so many ladies who have gone on delivering non-stop.Swimming or no swimming. It was because of the food they ate-those times, many have told me. Role of the males
was also negligible ...it seems. They only told me ...o.K.
