Mangalore, Aug 1: Thieves broke into the temple of Annappa Swamy located at Permude, Bajpe in the early hours of Friday August 1 and decamped with the precious mask of an ancient idol and gold, altogether worth around Rs 2 crore.

The temple for Annappa Swamy was built by Yadav Kotian, propreitor of Divya Roopa constructions, in front of his house.

The thieves reportedly broke open the temple's door and took away the mask of the idol and gold. Luckily, the theft was recorded in the CCTV.

It is reported that the mask of the Annappa idol was engraved with diamonds. The thieves who broke into the temple also allegedly took away the gold tongue of the idol and the offering box.

The police along with forensic experts and canine squad rushed to the spot and investigations are on. The police also sought the footage of the CCTV, a prime piece of evidence in the case.

It is learnt that there is an SEZ colony near the crime scene where as many as a thousand people from UP and Jharkhand are living. Locals said many cases of theft and robbery have been reported in the vicinity. The migrants are working under the SEZ contractor Yadav Kotian. The locals suspected the involvement of inter-state thieves in the case.

A case has been registered in the Bajpe police station.

I feel that holy places need to think of the poor and begin to share than gathering in cores...because it is said," give to God what belongs to God,Give to man what belongs to man......."Then all will have enough to live.....

Whether it is migrants or locals, it is easier said than done. Yes, registering outsiders details with the police is mandatory, no doubt. But the outsiders should have freedom to do anything of their choice.. anything does not mean against the law. This is a democratic country of yours mine and all citizens of India ... not a MARTIAL LAW country where you have to be monitored closely at the pointing of a gun. The law makers are there to crack open the case .. leave it to them. You and I should not poke our noses into their affairs.

It is common to hear of burglaries from homes and shops and business houses. However the blatant thieves now dare to rob Holy Places too.

In other words the perpetrators of this kind crime have no fears of men or even God.

Hope the police force will succeed in nabbing the culprits.

Joe, As you are aware Most of the theft from holy places without the knowledge of the public at large,,,,
These thefts are from collection boxes,
    Underhand deals,
    Wrong accounting
    False promises
    Selling indulgences
Sale of properties in black ( not accounted for) etc
These do not come to light

    Hi Arun,
Have you ever read or heard that thieves looted a masjid? Even if thieves looted the masjid, they can take away only some holly books. I don’t know why God needs money or gold ornaments?
Now God need a security guard in the night?

DK has become a haven for big ticket robberies along with all sorts of criminal activities off late, law and order is at the lowest!!

Adorning deities with such costly ornaments (worth crores) is an open invitation to professional robbers especially in remotely located and low security places!!

These robbers may even be making a pact (promise) with their favorite deities of giving a certain percentage back if their operation goes successful to avoid incurring its wrath!!

OMG i Didnt know that temples were so rich. 2 CRORES ! and nowadays even robbers are not bothered about god. They rob temple church mosque any holy place without fear. The main reason for this is the price rise. When people cannot fill their stomach the last thing they can do is rob.

    Ache din ah ra hain.

What God will do with that wealth. Foolishly people GIFT or try to BRIBE God with costly items.
God may have asked the robbers to take and make use of it to feed the poor people.
So much wealth just locked away for years and years together in Churches\Mosques\Temples\shrines.
Government should do something about it before all the care takers and the holy people!! swipe most of it. May be many of the real gold plate may have been replaced with dud gold!!!
