Mangalore/Kasargod, Aug 1: The Kasargod police on Friday August 1 arrested four persons of Mumbai origin for waylaying a car at Thokkottu and robbing its occupants of cash and mobile phones.

The arrested have been identified as A Basheer Sarvi (32), Mushtaq Abubakker Naqvi (31), Muneer Rafiq Khan (20) and Gulam Mohammed Ishaq Sheikh (33). Among them, Basheer is from Mumbai while the rest are from Thane near Mumbai.

They were arrested from Karandakkad in Kasargod. The police seized two swords, a dagger, a revolver, mobile phones and a car from the accused.

It is said that on Thursday July 31 night, Iqbal, Mustafa, Zakir and another person, all from Shiriya in Kumble, were driving back to their hometown after visiting a hospital in Mangalore. When they reached Thokkottu, the accused who came in another waylaid them and pretended to ask for directions.

One of the four accused then reportedly pointed a gun at Zakir who was driving the car and demanded cash and valuables. Frightened that they would be killed, Zakir and his friends handed over Rs 15,000 and two mobile phones to the robbers. The accused then sped away in their Renault Duster car with the loot.

Acting quickly, Iqbal and Mustafa immediately informed their friends about the robbery and told them that the accused had fled towards Kasargod in the Duster car. Their friends in turn informed the Kumble police and also themselves began to look for the car.

The Kumble police kept a watch for the robbers' car on national highway. On receiving information that the car had moved towards Kasargod, the Kumble police alerted the Kasargod town police.

The Kasargod police swung into action and intercepted the Duster car near Karandakkad, and arrested the four accused.

Police sources said that the gang was involved in several crimes earlier too.

A case has been registered in Ullal police station. Ullal police team led by sub-inspector Dinesh arrived at Kasargod police station to conduct further investigations.

So, Kasaragod/Mangalore is no safer too.

The problem is that someone will come and bail these idiots out , a lawyer will fight on their behalf.
And, they will continue their operations.

Further, I doubt their origin. They can't be from Bombay. Bombay thugs in first place won't go for these petty loot and secondly, they won't be having that much guts too.

Hindi (urdu) speaking Muslims are aplenty in the coastal are till Calicut.

Hope Police will investigate at this angle too.

Lock these ba###ds in jail for at least 3 years.

Media will call all these thugs as innocent people. Do you remember the case of Kabeer ?
