Bangalore: No money to fight by-polls, says Deve Gowda

Bangalore, Jul 31 (PTI): Former Prime Minister and JDS chief H D Deve Gowda today said he has suggested to the party state leadership not to field any candidates for the August 21 by-elections to three assembly seats in the state, saying his party was not in a sound financial position.

He however clarified that his party would neither support BJP nor Congress in the elections.

By-elections to three seats are being held after sitting MLAs B S Yeddyurappa (Shikaripur), Prakash Hukkeri (Chikkodi-Sadalga) and B Sriramulu (Bellary) vacated them, consequent to their election to Lok Sabha.

Stating that the party is not in a financially sound position to fight polls against Congress and BJP who are in power in the state and the Centre respectively, Gowda told reporters, "I have suggested not to field candidates in this by-election."

He said his suggestion of not fielding candidates does not mean the party will support any other political party.

Stating that emphasis will be given towards strengthening the party from the base level, he said a meeting of loyal party workers will be held here in August.

However, Gowda's son and former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, who was present, said the party leadership has expressed its opinion but there is pressure from party workers to field candidates. A decision will be taken in this regard after discussing with local leaders of the party.

BJP has fielded B Y Raghavendra (Shikaripur), Mahantesh Kavatagimath (Chikkodi-Sadalga) and Oblesh (Bellary) as its candidates, while Congress is yet to finalise its list.

The way he is putting prominent leaders out of his party, the way he conducted himself and jD(S) poorly in loklabha elections recently etc is giving strong doubts to Gowdas credibility .Why is he putting sword to his own party despite ruling Karnataka for 3 times?. What are his motives? why is he destroying his own party chances? Why he put weak candidates in recent LS elections?Has he sold his party to BJP and Congress? A answer nobody knows except Gowda.

If yoru son ha thought about this few months back then, then Veerappa Moiley would have been at home by now writing " Raamayana Darshana Part-2" along with his BFF Poojariji. But he spoilt the party of Mission 43. Not only 1 but I guess he gifted congress atleats couple of seats. Your party would have saved atleast 50 crores if you had left BJP to hunt congress without disturbing. Too late now.

You have no money Gowdaji !?.
Then sell the building of Leela 7 star Hotel and Sagar Hospital in Padmanabha Nagar which are under the ownership of your family and these two properties are worth 1300 crores as per present market value.
Besides your family owns many petrol Bunks and Sharavana Jewellery Shop. Moreover Half of Padmanabha nagar area of Bangalore is owned by your family. Now it is the right time to encash all these old investments.

Very good decision by Shri. Deve Gowda.
All small and regional parties should merge with big 2 national parties i.e. BJP and Congress and pave way for 2 party system in India.
I see these scattered parties coming back to their parent fold.

HD Deve Gowda testing the water with other parties (bargaining)on the one hand and other side and more importantly there are no stake in three Assembly seats except some in Shikaripura. Now a days with enough bucks one can't fight the election and JDS certainly has resource dry after few years out of power. But the option put forward by HDK tells different stories.
