Udupi, Jul 30: In a gesture aimed at fostering communal harmony, Souharda committee under Catholic Sabha, Udyavar here organized Eid Souharda Koota on Wednesday July 30 at Lions Club auditorium near Melpete Shambukallu temple, Udyavar.
In his inaugural speech, district incharge minister Vinay Kumar Sorake said, "We can build strong relationship between different religions by organizing such programmes. Politicians should be unbiased and strive to foster religious harmony." He wished the committee good luck in its future endeavours.
Newly elected taluk panchayat vice-president Ganesh Kumar was felicitated by the committee.
State-level awardee Prof Udyavar Madhav Acharya said, "Religion and knowledge are the two faces of a coin. Knowledge is God's gift, science is a human creation, and human is created by God. Everyone must abide by universally accepted rules and live together with harmony."
Isaac Puttur, vice-president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mangalore zone wished the gathering and explained the significance of Eid.
Fr Dr Roque D'Souza, parish priest of St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar blessed the gathering.
Moulana Abdul Rashid Rehmani, priest of Jamia Masjid, Udyavar presided over the programme.
Wilfred D'Souza welcomed the gathering. Riyaz Palli delivered the vote of thanks. Steevan Colaco compered the programme.
