Mangalore: Excitement galore at 'Teeyere Kootkali' rural sports meet

Mangalore, Jul 28: 'Teeyere Kootkali', a sports meet exclusively meant for slushy fields, was organized from morning to evening on Sunday July 27 at the agricultural field of Sri Vaidyanatha Chavadi at Ullalabail, Ullal.

The meet was inaugurated after the arrival of the sports flame to the stadium from the temple of Goddess Cheerumbha Bhagawati at Ullal. A number of dignitaries took part in the programme, including health minister and local MLA U T Khadar, who even tried his hand at tug-of-war.

Sports events organized for the enthusiasts included slushy field race, volleyball, throw ball, human pyramid, game of betelnut tree sheets, three-legged race, coconut race, weaving of mats out of coconut fronds, Kambala of human beings, breaking of pots, fast-paced walk, treasure hunt and tug-of-war, among others.

Men, women and children of all age groups participated in the events with great enthusiasm. The children especially had loads of fun as they ran about the slush fields and showed off their acrobatic skills too. All in all, it was a day of great fun and frolic for the participants who revelled in the excitement of rural sports.

Ullal committee president of Bharatiya Teeya Samaj, M Dinesh Kumpala, Teeya Sports Meet reception committee president, Sadashiva Ullal, honorary president, Manjappa Karnavar, vice president, Nagappa Adyar, general secretary, Padmanabha Madoor secretary, Raghava Gurikar Uchchil, treasurer, Suresh Bhatnagar, chief convener, Raveendra Ullal, women's events chief organizer, Ganga Janardan, Bharatiya Teeya Samaj central committee members, Raghava N Uchchil, Madhava Suvarna, Damodar Ullal, Ullal committee general secretary, Sabita Umesh Talapady, vice president, Rajkumar Ombattukere, joint secretary, Nagappa Adyar, and several other dignitaries were present.

    What a ancient culture of our nation..having vast events to keep people with gaiety all the time..!!
    Even though people in our country do not have much money..still people are happy...within there surroundings..!!
