Bantwal, Jul 28: Policemen attached to Vittal station in the taluk have succeeded in taking into custody Nitin, who has been accused of kidnapping an underage PU student from Punacha to Bangalore, and raping the girl during this travel by bus having sleepers. He has been accused of picking the girl when she was proceeding to her college from her home, and raping her while escorting the victim to Bangalore by KSRTC bus.
The Vittal police, who had initially received a missing complaint of the girl and investigated the incident, had found her from Bangalore bus station. During her questioning, the girl told them that she was accompanied by the accused. As the girl happens to be 17, the policemen had registered a case of abduction, rape, as well as some sections of SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
Vittal station house officer, Raghavendra, and other personnel of the station, who keenly followed up the case, could find out the whereabouts of Nitin and arresting him from Bangalore. He was brought to Vittal on Monday July 28. Nitin, a resident of Neerkaje in Punacha village, had become friendly with the girl during the period he used to work as conductor of a private bus operating in the area. It is said that these two friends turned lovers soon, giving rise to lot of problems.
It is gathered that Nitin, who left home for Bangalore about six weeks back, bagged work in a factory engaged in production of scented sticks. Recently he had been on a visit to his family, and had convinced the girl to accompany him to Bangalore. He made use of the opportunity and satiated his sexual desires during the couple's travel to Bangalore, it has been alleged. Nitin now faces charges relating to abduction of minor girl, raping her, and also committing atrocities on persons belonging scheduled castes and tribes.
Nitin was produced in the presence of a judge here on Monday night.
