Bantwal: Abduction, rape of minor – accused nabbed from Bangalore

Mounesh Vishwakarma
Daijiworld Media Network – Bantwal (SP)

Bantwal, Jul 28: Policemen attached to Vittal station in the taluk have succeeded in taking into custody Nitin, who has been accused of kidnapping an underage PU student from Punacha to Bangalore, and raping the girl during this travel by bus having sleepers.  He has been accused of picking the girl when she was proceeding to her college from her home, and raping her while escorting the victim to Bangalore by KSRTC bus.

The Vittal police, who had initially received a missing complaint of the girl and investigated the incident, had found her from Bangalore bus station. During her questioning, the girl told them that she was accompanied by the accused. As the girl happens to be 17, the policemen had registered a case of abduction, rape, as well as some sections of  SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

Vittal station house officer, Raghavendra, and other personnel of the station, who keenly followed up the case, could find out the whereabouts of Nitin and arresting him from Bangalore. He was brought to Vittal on Monday July 28. Nitin, a resident of Neerkaje in Punacha village, had become friendly with the girl during the period he used to work as conductor of a private bus operating in the area. It is said that these two friends turned lovers soon, giving rise to lot of problems.

It is gathered that Nitin, who left home for Bangalore about six weeks back, bagged work in a factory engaged in production of scented sticks. Recently he had been on a visit to his family, and had convinced the girl to accompany him to Bangalore. He made use of the opportunity and satiated his sexual desires during the  couple's travel to Bangalore, it has been alleged. Nitin now faces charges relating to abduction of minor girl, raping her, and also committing atrocities on persons belonging scheduled castes and tribes.

Nitin was produced in the presence of a judge here on Monday night.

If he(Nitin) is also under aged then he is not responsible for what happened...may be his father and mother are responsible...for producing such a nice and thoughtful kid...may be KSRTC bus is also responsible...for facilitating such act...

What a joke.. This definitely is not rape. Why the hell did the girl alone in the bus. Why did they travel "together" on a sleeper coach?
    Its all desperation.
So easily they call it rape. Total misuse.
We definitely should learn something from countries which follow strict laws on rape and sexual crimes..

@Vinod. What countries are you talking about ? Here are some countries where an adult having sex with a minor is considered statutory rape - USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, Japan, France, India...

By definition, a minor is considered legally incapable of giving consent to the sex act. This also applies for voting rights, purchasing alcohol or signing contracts. These are legal facts, not a personal opinion.

    Roshan, Mangalore,
I think my message was misunderstood.. Sorry for not explicitly mentioning.
What I meant was these are two sided issues. Definitely sex with minor amounts to rape. The guy should go to jail.
We call these kids minor but they are not.. Though 18 is the age limit they mature much earlier. So it could be consensual. What if both were minors?
Here in India there are so many concerns and laxity to take a strict action.
Why in countries life gulf there are harsh and quick punishments for such crimes?
Dont we have strong personnel to investigate the issues and come to conclusion faster? This what I meant when I wrote we need to learn from other countries. Fast Track!

Just look at the Bangalore 6 year old rape case. Mr. Mustafa was accused and now Bangalore police is saying it was a mistake.
I know I am not so qualified on such investigations but as a parent I am so scared what if such thing happens in my family? Will I have any help from anybody? Will I have no option but wait for the judgement day..
We all live a though such crimes happens only happen in other cities and not in our families..
We all need to wake up from that demand quick justice so that the crime rate reduces

Yes.. this is a simple case of immaturity on the part of boy and girl.He should know he cannot elope with a minor girl and the girl should know eloping when she is a minor leads to parents complaining kidnap, rape and atrocity(in this case. Youngsters should know the law and should wait. Parents should come out of caste creed bias and accept the reality that it is ok let their children lead life their way. Of course, they can convey their wishes and advice them and let the children think. It is unfortunate we are still living with immature people around(parents and children alike)

Such complaints should not be entertained. By reading the news everyone will agree that girl wanted the fun and went with the man in the sleeper coach. I don't understand how the authorities in the bus allowed them in same sleeper cabin, or it may be he had booked a separate cabin for her and then slowly slipped into that sometime. Everything was well planned with girls knowledge. Police should question her on why she did not raise alarm if he was abducting her and raping her.

It does not matter whether it was consensual/not. If the girl is under 18 (since the article states she's a teen), she is considered a minor by law and not in a position to consent. It's the law in India and most western nations.

I used to write stories initially which used to be rejected on grounds of being 'far fetched' and all that.
This story takes some 'fetching' I must say! Many have exclaimed how it could have happened in a 'Sleeper'. These 'may have' been the reasons.
Think the Bus was a 'Sleeper' cum 'Roller' type with sound proof kiosks. Is it not? Now I have seen Airavat's (KSRTC) advertisement which runs...'Sleep like a Baby' or something like that.....
Maybe all others were sleeping like babies except these two grown ups...Is it not?
