Mangalore/Dubai, Jul 27: Muslims in most of the Gulf and Middle Eastern countries will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday July 28.
In UAE, Monday was announced as the beginning of Shawwal month, marking the first day of Eid-ul-Fitr, by the UAE moon sighting committee on Sunday July 27 evening. Sunday was thus the last day of Ramadan.
Eid was also announced in other countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. However, in Oman, the festival will be celebrated on Tuesday July 29, as the moon was not sighted.
In Dakshina Kannada too, Eid will be celebrated on Tuesday, as announced by Mangalore Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar, after discussions with other religious scholars.
Bangalore too will celebrate Eid on Tuesday.
The fasting during the month of Ramadan culminates with the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, during when Muslims offer special prayers in mosques and celebrate with family and friends.
