Bangalore, Jul 23 (NDTV): The police have arrested the chairman of an elite Bangalore school where a six-year-old child was allegedly raped on July 2.
Rustom Kerawalla, the chairman of the Vibgyor High School, was arrested this morning, for allegedly concealing information and trying to destroy evidence.
A skating instructor, Mustafa, who had been working at the school since 2011 has been arrested for allegedly raping the first grade student in a classroom.
The police have accused the school of not verifying the background of Mustafa, who had been sacked by another school, Deen's Academy, for "gross misconduct."
Kerawalla faced protests by angry parents who last week tore down the school gate and stormed his office, accusing the school of failing to protect their children.
The school has remained closed since the horrific crime was reported by the child's mother on July 15, nearly a week after the assault.
Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddy said, "The school will reopen next week. We are trying to normalize the situation so that children don't suffer."
