Child rape case: Chairman of Bangalore school arrested

Bangalore, Jul 23 (NDTV): The police have arrested the chairman of an elite Bangalore school where a six-year-old child was allegedly raped on July 2.

Rustom Kerawalla, the chairman of the Vibgyor High School, was arrested this morning, for allegedly concealing information and trying to destroy evidence.

A skating instructor, Mustafa, who had been working at the school since 2011 has been arrested for allegedly raping the first grade student in a classroom.

The police have accused the school of not verifying the background of Mustafa, who had been sacked by another school, Deen's Academy, for "gross misconduct."

Kerawalla faced protests by angry parents who last week tore down the school gate and stormed his office, accusing the school of failing to protect their children.

The school has remained closed since the horrific crime was reported by the child's mother on July 15, nearly a week after the assault.

Bangalore Police Commissioner MN Reddy said, "The school will reopen next week. We are trying to normalize the situation so that children don't suffer."

Juliet, I liked your interest to put forward the Rape story in a chronological style. And at the last, you are calling Media as "Jobless". After getting all the inputs from them, now you are throwing them to Dust bin. I need not to define you what is Media and what is their duty to the Society at large. Let us not call them Jobless or Worthless, if their Story doesn't suits our interest. We want a neutral Media. Like wise we appreciate Neutral sensible Comments. Gone are those days when my partially literate Parents and illiterate Grand Parents were almost like Frogs in the well, now we all are educated and we know what is what, sitting at one place, Courtesy Media. Due to them now I know our CM is napping in Vidhana Sabha due to "Sleep Apnea" problem. This is purely I am sharing with you. Courtesy Media.

It is good to see that at long last the Bangalore Police have managed obtain clues to arrest not only the perpetuater of the heinous crime but also the person who tried to protect the culprit.

When the children are entrusted to a school, it is the bounden duty of all concerned to protect them. Here is a case of total indifference on the part of the school authorities to help the police in their investigation.

The law has taken it course even thought delayed.

This is for all those who feel the issue is politicized.
We as human beings are very much hurt to know a heinous crime of rape is conducted on a 6 yr. old child .Whoes ever child she is,she is a child of INdian soil.We seriously condemn this act.
The gist of the rape as per news paper report is highlighted herewith.
1.School teacher locked the child in a room to punish her.
2.When the teacher left two gym instructors entered the room.
3.After the men had left one more teacher,Pooja entered the room and found the child bleeding. She then brought a doctor, who administered an injection.
    4. the child started complaining to the parents about the pain in the private part and stomach and also having intermittent fever accordingly she was treated for high fever.
5.This crime had taken place on 2nd july. On 8th a stranger calls on the parents to en-quire why the child is not coming to school. The school authorities say they have not made any phone calls to the childs parents.
6.On July 11th when the child was taken to a private hospital, it came to light that the kid has been sexually assaulted .
On july 14th APSA took up the case soon after the father rang up the child line.
Since then the politicians and the jobless medias interfered .
Now throw your questions if any.

Dear Mam...You made a big mistake by calling media as "Jobless Media"..Because of this media, rapist and chairman of school were arrested after a week, otherwise this issue would not have been booked at all !!

And one more thing this issue is not politicised..when our honorable CM is asking meida "you don't have anything to cover except rape ?" OR Sleeping in assembly hall when serious debate was going on about rape in the state ,people attack CM only whetehr he is Congress or BJP.. simple logic..

    Jaimini Sir,
Welcome back. After a long holiday at mlore, meeting all the media people you have made your appearance once again.Fine.
The Medias if they were realy concerned, they should have collected the parents of the people and nabbed all the people involved mentioned above and thrashed them to the core till the truth had come out.The school chairman of course accountable to certain extant. But had they found out the real persons behind this act they would have been highly appreciated.
If this issue is not politicized why the leaders of the opposition had to collect the innocent students to take part in the rallys. Our CM has given a suitable reply to the media. An Indian soldier is killed at the border by the enemy soldiers. Why this issue is not give wide publicity as given to this rape case. For the incident taken place in the state people attack CM. SO for the incident taken place at the border whom should the people attack?PM right.
In your previous comments for every incident that takes place in India you used to blame the then PM calling him Mouna Mohana.Dont you feel the present PM also is in MOUNA MODE.

Vibgyor High is an educational organization. It was established in 2004 in Goregaon, Mumbai. The school was founded by the Chairman Rustom Kerawalla. In less than 10 years, there have been about 17 new schools all over India in cities and towns. Vibgyor High follows the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), International General Certification of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and the A-level depending on the school chosen.
Now the chain of school is running into different controversies:
1.n 2010, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists allegedly ransacked Vibgyor High School in Mumbai, protesting against the expulsion of a girl student at the Goregaon school, reportedly because her mother had led morchas against the fee hike effected by the school.
2.In 2013, The principal of Vibgyor High Pune and her spouse were arrested in Hyderabad for allegedly trying to sell defence land to a Hyderabad-based education trust for Rs 18.5 crore, claiming to be the owners.
3.A consumer forum in Pune has ordered Pune-based Vibgyor High School to refund the entire fees upon cancellation of admission to the father of two children besides paying a compensation of Rs 10,000.
4.On July 2, 2014, a six-year old girl student was raped allegedly by skating instructor Mustafa at Bangalore .A medical examination confirmed the girl student was sexually abused.

Good step!! When u arrest High and mighty, there will be a serious message to other schools...

I too have been to this school, when my kid was joining.. they charge 500/- for brochure/application itself!! forget the fees and joining... And while going through the classrooms and campus, I realised there is not even proper exit plan, god forbid, in case there is a fire hazard! 5 floors with so many kids, u have one staircase to get down? .

anyways, they also hire, teachers without background check and people like mustafa, who land up In bangalore and Mumbai , after voting Lalu yadavs backhome get into such schools... just imagine, the girl as ur own kid, what wrong she has done..? paying such high fees and joining a careless school... she will have to live with stigma and fear throughout her life... I feel so so bad here... :(

There is every chance this Mustafa was providing what he was good at to top rung too. Hence the urgency in removing traces of the crime and vamoosing to a distant place?
Did u give thought to that angle?
No teacher could think that they would be part of the crime if they did not reveal the truth at the very juncture? What kind of Teachers do we have today then?
Were the teachers afraid of losing their lucrative jobs or were threatened so?
Well what would we have done if we were the School's staff and were influenced by the Chairman!!?
    Difficult to answer.
Best option is to tell the truth\reveal the truth......on the spot. Most probably there is a long way to go for those were aware of the fact...
