Mangalore, Jul 23: Cyril G Sequeira, popularly known as 'C G S Taccode' has been chosen to receive this year's Konkani Kutam Award, instituted by Konkani Kutam Bahrain, for his immense contribution for the cause of Konkani language and literature.
This was announced by local convener of Konkani Kutam Richard Moras at a press meet here on Wednesday July 23.
The award will be presented in a glittering ceremony to be held on Saturday July 26 at 6.30 pm at St Sebastian Platinum Jubilee Hall, Bendore. Goa Konkani Academy president Pundalik Naik will preside over the function, while eminent columnist Dr Narendra Rai Derla will be the chief guest and Edwin Netto, renowned Konkani writer will be the guest of honour.
Konkani Kutam Bahrain is a voluntary forum exclusively formed for promoting Konkani language, literature and culture in the year 2000. In its endeavour to support Konkanki writers and artistes, Konkani Kutam instituted 'Konkani Kutam Award' in 2002. The award consists of a citation, memento and a cash prize of Rs 50,000. The awardee is selected by analyzing and evaluating his or her significant contribution to the cause of Konkani.
Poet and committee member Melvyn Rodrigues and committee members William Pais, Joe Coelho and Manu Bahrain were present.
Brief profile of Cyril Gregory Sequeira (C G S Taccode)
Cyril Gregory Sequiera, popularly C G S Taccode, is a well-known Konkani writer particularly in the humour genre. Starting his writing career at the tender age of twelve, he has written various articles and books but he is known more for his contribution in humour writing. His humour columns - Fugetyo, Fokannam, his books Grahachaar, Sursuryo, Kuchilyo, Maskiryo, Chirmulyo, Hai Hai Dubai, Bullbulle, Sullsulle, Thambde Gulle have entertained Konkani readers. His humour writings have satire, caution and reflection of society in ample measure.
Cyril also worked as editor of Konkani magazines Kannik, Umallo and as sub-editor of Raknno. Mary Magdel, Chaar Disancho Sansar, Haschengi Rodchem, Badyachi Baail, Pitull, Eklem Ekchurem, Girgi Mirsang, Diana are some of the plays written by him. He is also known for poetry and translations. His work as organizer and compere is also well-known.
His short story collection Dukaam and play Pitull have won recognition from Goa Bhasha Mandal. Daiji Dubai Award, Sandesha Award, Konkani Academy Book Award are some of the prestigious awards he has received.
Born in 1951 in Taccode near Moodbidri, he worked in Dubai and Qatar and now lives in Mangalore. He is married to Sylvia and the couple has two children Vijay and Vineeta.
