New Delhi, Jul 23 (DHNS): Pejawar Math pontiff Vishwesha Teertha Swamiji met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday and urged him to not set up any industry on fertile agricultural land.
Terming it a courtesy call, the Swamiji told the media that he had requested Modi that industries should come up only in barren land.
Citing the example of the proposed special economic zone in the Dakshina Kannada district in Karnataka, where farmers are protesting the acquisition of land, the Swamiji said that projects should not take away the livelihood of people.
He said he had also requested the prime minister not to set up industries that were harmful to environment.
He said Modi had responded positively to his request and had also promised that the government would not acquire farmland for industries.
