Kasargod, Jul 21: In a case similar to that of Karkala's Melwin Fernandes who got arrested in Kuwait for possessing medicines that were banned in that country, Rashid (25) a resident of Kanhangad too got caught for possessing banned medicines given by his friend.
To Rashid's good fortune, he got released from Kuwait jail in less than a month, thanks to the efforts of several associations which came to his rescue.
A month ago, Rashid's friend Naseem Musafa, a resident of Kannur Pudiyangady, had given him a parcel to hand over to a person in Kuwait. Unknown to Rashid, the parcel contained drugs that are banned in Kuwait.
On June 26, when Rashid landed in Kuwait, the airport authorities, on checking, found the banned substances in Rashid's luggage and he was arrested.
Several associations in Kuwait, on learning about Rashid's plight, came to his rescue and put in all efforts to prove his innocence. Finally, on Sunday July 19 night, Rashid's family in Kanhangad received the news that he had been released. Rashid was released on payment of 1,500 dinars.
