Kasargod, Jul 21: In a case similar to that of Karkala's Melwin Fernandes who got arrested in Kuwait for possessing medicines that were banned in that country, Rashid (25) a resident of Kanhangad too got caught for possessing banned medicines given by his friend.

To Rashid's good fortune, he got released from Kuwait jail in less than a month, thanks to the efforts of several associations which came to his rescue.

A month ago, Rashid's friend Naseem Musafa, a resident of Kannur Pudiyangady, had given him a parcel to hand over to a person in Kuwait. Unknown to Rashid, the parcel contained drugs that are banned in Kuwait.

On June 26, when Rashid landed in Kuwait, the airport authorities, on checking, found the banned substances in Rashid's luggage and he was arrested.

Several associations in Kuwait, on learning about Rashid's plight, came to his rescue and put in all efforts to prove his innocence. Finally, on Sunday July 19 night, Rashid's family in Kanhangad received the news that he had been released. Rashid was released on payment of 1,500 dinars.

100% possible Mr Rajesh Shetty, but our "yenk daye " attitude is what makes us different from keralites.I fail to understand that why on earth there is no respect and love towards our fellow mangalorean amongst us.high time we analyze this. All we do is indulge in hatred and religion bashing.

DK people are not united as Keralites. In fact most of us dont like Keralites for their unity. We being educated only talk about unity but in actual most of us are busy in blaming each other, linking every incident to community and spew hatred among ourselves by forgetting that we all from one DK. Example can be seen in DW how we are divided being from one place, hardly we read some neutral comments here.

It is always safer to carry a prescription from a Doctor / physician in the name of the carrier. Also carry the bill. Incase you are stopped by that countries customs you can always say that its for your personal medication / consumption.

Sometimes relatives / friends request you to carry 6 months stock of medicines. At the customs it would seem that you are doing some business, depriving the local chemist of his livelihood. Moreover , if you are going there on a visit visa carry only stock for that period and not more.

In the best interest, do not carry such things for anybody.

Wow! this proves how strong is the unity among Keralites. Here are exactly the same two kind of cases in one, a Mangalorean is involved and in the other a Keralite. In the second case this community from Kerala were successful help and to free their statesmen and in the first case our Manglorean from Karnataka is still in the Kuwaiti jail from months! Can anyone explain how this is possible? Where are our (so called leaders) from Mangalorean community in Kuwait people like Pinto, Menezes, Machado, Rodrigues, Castelino, D’ Souza … etc who try to get cheap publicity for no important reasons? Here is the real task before them to prove!

Time for all the DK/Udupi associations in Kuwait to take up this case study to the concerned authorities in Kuwait and fight for the release of Melwin citing the similar circumstances and providing evidences for the same. If Mallu Lobby can get their work done in Kuwait why not united efforts of Mangaloriens of all caste and creed get togather for this cause. Am sure its possible.
