Mangalore, Jul 21: A person, who jumped into the sea near Baikampady Koorikatta here, kept the policemen and fire brigade personnel on tenterhooks by refusing to come to the shore. The man in question has been identified as Ravi (53), who used to work as a cutter in a tailoring shop in Mumbai.
On account of heavy rains in the region, the sea is in full fury. Early morning on Sunday July 20, Ravi jumped into the sea and started playing with surging waves after reaching considerable depths. As the sea continues to be tumultuous, no one ventures into the sea. As such, some locals who saw the erratic behaviour of the person, called the police and fire brigade.
Although he fire brigade personnel arrived on the spot, they were helpless. They could do nothing but keep watching the man's actions and continue to coax him to come ashore. After long time, a huge wave hit him hard. Taken aback, he started swimming towards the shore to save his life, but was found to be too weak and about to lose consciousness when he neached the shore. He was rescued by the people and admitted into a local hospital.
As the man did not have an clothes on him, those who saved him gave him some clothes. Although Ravi appeared normal, he was found to be speaking incongruously. Some said he was mentally deranged due to some family problems.
