Kundapur, Jul 19: Residents of Uppunda and Byndoor, students, traders, rickshaw and taxi drivers and owners on Saturday July 19 held a massive protest urging speedy investigation into the mysterious death of 17-year-old Ratna Kottary.
Ratna was found dead in a forest area at Alandoor near Byndoor on July 12, three days after she went missing. Though it has been a week since her body was found, the police are yet to make a breakthrough.
The protesters held a rally from Uppunda, and marching via Byndoor, they submitted a memorandum to circle inspector Sudarshan.
The protestors urged that the truth come out without delay so that the victim's family gets justice.
They said that cases of rape and murder of women have increased in the country as the criminals rarely get punished. "Nobody is interested in listening to the pleas of women and providing them adequate security. The poor girl in Shiroor has been done injustice. There should be an impartial and thorough investigation so that justice prevails," they said.
Sukumar Shetty, president of BJP block, Byndoor, Sudhakar Shetty, trader, Krishna Kharvi of rickshaw drivers' union, Deepak Kumar Shetty, vice-president of state BJP Raita Sangha, general public and students participated in the rally in large numbers.
Catholic Sabha, Byndoor unit too extended its support to the protest.
