Mental illness must be hope-filled issue: Glenn Close

Los Angeles, Jul 17 (IANS): Glenn Close, known for her role in the film "Gaurdians of the Galaxy", says mental illness must be discussed more freely and that it must not be looked upon as "loathed to talk about".

Close, whose sister suffers bipolar disorder, believes that mental illness isn't anything to be ashamed of, reports femalefirst.co.uk.

"It is part of the human condition. Actually, because so many people are affected by it, it is something that should be a uniting, hope-filled issue rather than something that people have always been loathed to talk about, and afraid and ashamed about it," she said.

The founder of the Bring Change 2 Mind charity, Close aims to end the stigma surrounding mental illness.

"It's really important to now be able to have open conversation about it," she said.
