Udupi: New road starts peeling, poses danger to motorists

Udupi, Jul 15: While the four-lane work on the national highway from Surathkal to Kundapur is nearing completion, the locals are already wondering how long it would last.

The surface of the recently completed four-lane road that has been opened for traffic has already started peeling off. It is not known if it is due to heavy rain or the inferior quality of work.

The traffic problems that existed in Brahmavar prior to the project are likely to reappear. Along with the earlier chaos in Brahmavar bus stand and Akashvani, new problems are troubling the commuters.

The national highway road near SMS College is also breaking. A similar situation exists in Doopadakatte and Heroor. The damaged tar layer near Mahesh Hospital has been removed but the road is an open invitation to danger as it has not been re-tarred.

The situation at SMS College and near Mahesh Hospital has directly affected two-wheeler riders. Two-wheeler riders have been losing control and meeting with accidents on the damaged and incomplete roads.

Locals have urged the contractors to start and complete the work without delay.

I think all involved in the 'ongoing' project can easily vie for the Limca Book or even Guinness Book title for the 'longest time' to build the road from point A to B!!!

When are they completing this project. It has become a joke. Since last 5 years whenever i Visit Udupi it looks like some dead end with some tar stored otte dabbs at the end. They should give these kind of projects to L&T kind of companies.

From the Pictures it appears , the section where citizens have complained, still to be paved with one more final layer of asphalt(Wearing Course). There is clear uniform difference in thickness of layers which work may be pending from the contractor. It may be case of misunderstanding of the construction process. It is better for Daijiworld to clarify the issue with Contractors.I am voicing my opinion from the photos. I cannot comment on the whole Road.

The road is suppose to be two layered.
In one of the pictures the two layer is not complete.
Other pictures look likes some edges are not given importance especially where vehicles get on to that road.

I frequently travel to Udupi from Mangalore in this Road by my vehicle and I have personally seen that this road is of very low quality.
The Contractor is a very powerful Company having top connections in Delhi & Bangalore. So, they can easily get away with this low quality work. Besides this company is going to install Tollgate immediately after completion of this road, where they will again loot the people of our district.

In India New Road Laying means putting patches over patches - it is a kind of new design patented by India only for their new roads.

What a shame...No inquiry... no accountability....no fines...\no legal action against all concerned including Government engineers....

    Just fleecing...fleecing...fleecing
Why we people are keeping quiet on all these things.

This is the contribution by our corrupt politicians. I am sure Britishers would have given us better long lasting highways, roads, & bridges etc.
