Mangalore, Jul 16: Joyline D'Souza of Shakthinagar was elected the president of Young Catholic Students (YCS) Movement during the elections to the central council for the year 2014-15 held recently at Shanthi Kiran, Bajjodi here.
The annual general body meeting and unit office-bearers training programme of YCS were also held on the same occasion.
The day began with the registration and ice-breaking conducted by the YCS central council members.
Later a session on 'Leadership and role of office-bearers' was conducted by Norbert Misquith followed by a session on ‘Why students hesitate to come forward and write competitive exams’ by Fr Ajith Menezes, the assistant director of St Joseph’s Engineering College. Concluding the morning sessions Fr Anil Lobo, assistant director of pastoral institute, celebrated the holy Eucharist in which he stressed the methodoloy of YCS - see, judge and act.
After lunch election of the central council was conducted by Norbert Misquith.

For the valedictory programme, Fr Victor Machado, director of Pastoral Institute was the president. Fr Edwin Correa, director of YCS/YSM, Mangalore diocese, Norbert Misquith and the central council members were present on the dias.
The programme began by invoking God's blessings through a prayer song. President Clyde D'souza, Ferrar welcomed the gathering, secretary Lindon Nazareth put forth the report of the year 2013-14. Vice-president Ashish D'souza shared his experience on how he was part of YCS and how he would adopt the methodology of the movement in his life. Fr Edwin Correa thanked his outgoing council for their wonderful job in the past year and as token of love and rememberance a momento,certificate and a bouquet was given.
The oath-taking ceremony was held for the newly-elected office-bearers and as a symbol of handing over responsibility, a candle was handed over by the director and the outgoing council to the newly-elected office-bearers.
The president of the programme in his message said tha to become a complete human being 3Ds are important - discipline, dedication, devotion. The newly-elected president Joyline D'Souza thanked everyone for supporting her.
In a first in YCS India, City Cell was inaugurated for the diocese of Mangalore. All ex-council and outgoing council will be a part of City Cell.
The valedictory programme was concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by secretary Veera Vinitha Sequeira, Siddakatte. The entire programme was compered by Froyd Ashlan, Madanthyar.
