Mangalore: John Monteiro elected president of Rachana

Mangalore, Jul 14: John B Monteiro was elected the new president of Rachana Catholic Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Mangalore during its annual general body meeting held on Sunday July 13 at Hotel Maya International at 7 pm.

John Monteiro took over the mantle from Ivan D'Souza, who was recently nominated as member of the Legislative Council (MLC) of Karnataka.



The new office-bearers elected for the year 2014-2015 are:

President : John B Monteiro
Vice-president : Stany Alvares
Secretary : Anil Lobo
Joint Secretary : Raymond D’Cunha
Treasurer : Nelson Monteiro


Other Governing Body Members:

Dr Errol Pinto
Brain Fernandes
Paul Moras
Dr Norman Mendonca
Juliet Mascarenhas

Ex-officio members:

Ivan D’Souza - Immediate past president
Flavy D’Souza - President Catholic Sabha Mangalore Pradesh.


Prof Edmond Frank was the election officer.

Outgoing president Ivan D’Souza who is also the MLC Karnataka state in his welcome address placed a bird’s eye view of various events that were organised during his tenure.

The newly elected president John B Monterio in his acceptance speech said his being elected as Rachana president was really unexpected and something that he had never dreamt of. He said with his experience as secretary of Rachana for the past two years and with the support, cooperation and guidance of former presidents and senior members he would put all possible efforts to do little things in a better way so as to keep the Rachana flag flying high.

Jasmine D’Souza conducted the prayer song.

Newly elected secretary Anil Lobo proposed the vote of thanks. Felix Pinto was the master of ceremont. The meeting concluded with dinner.
