Kundapur: Missing girl found dead in forest, rape and murder suspected

Silvester D'Souza
Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur

Kundapur, Jul 12: In a chilling reminder of the rape and murder of Sowjanya that occured in Beltangady almost two years ago, a girl from Alandoor here, who went missing on July 9, is suspected to have met a similar fate.

The 17-year-old girl, identified by her initials RK, was found dead in a forest at Alandoor on Saturday July 12 morning.

It is said that a woman who came to pick leaves sensed a foul smell emanating from the forest area, and on checking, she found the girl's body.

The body was in a decomposed state, and it is suspected that she was raped and murdered about one or two days back.

The girl's college bag was found near body. Her shawl and footwear were found in a nearby bush. Her clothes were torn, and there was a wound on her neck, indicating that she might have been strangled after being raped.

Forensic team from Manipal and SP Dr Boralingaiah along with Kundapur circle inspector P M Diwakar arrived at the spot.

Speaking to mediapersons, Dr Boralingaiah said that three police squads will be formed to investigate the case. "Strict action will be taken against the culprits," he assured.

Two persons, both locals, have been taken into custody for questioning.

The body was taken to Manipal hospital for post-mortem.

Byndoor MLA Gopal Poojary arrived at the spot urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly.

A first PU student of a college at Shiroor, the girl went missing on Wednesday July 9 morning while on the way to college. She was believed to have been kidnapped from a desolate stretch of the road at Savantagudde, as people living in a house near this place had seen the girl walking towards the college. A case of abduction was registered in Byndoor police station.

Girls are taught to cook, clean the house.. why not teach them to start protecting themselves from such beasts? There cant be permanent solution, keep karate classes or few self defense techniques in schools and colleges.. just pity on the parents who take so much of pain to educate the girl and then lose them like this!! Why?? There is no end for this till boys are taught to respect the girls and stop acting like Dogs..

    You said it right.

The earlier BJP government and followed by the present congress govt, have protected the powerful family in the Soujanya rape case. Most people are fools thinking that a mad man has committed rape. Most people in Ujire know who does these kinds of acts there with impunity.

This rape/murder case must be something similar. These powerful landlord types who still live with a feudal mindset, think that the poor people of the village are their property.

Very sad and shocking incident.Kannada channel broad-casted this news.I was in tears when I came to know that the the girl used to walk 5 kilometer to reach the college. While return another 5 KM.totally 10 KM walk everyday. Her parents are daily wagers hence cannot afford any transport.Even though she had rigorous routine, malnutrition she was firm to attain knowledge, excellent at studies.I cannot imagine the sufferings she went through. With deepest sorrows in my heart I pray to God may her soul rest in peace.May her family bear the pain.Girls in villages also not spared what a cruel fate.

May God heal, comport and give strength to the parents and loved ones to overcome this situation,
If I have evil inside of me than politics can't forcibly change me inside, myself I have to try to come out of it, or I must have fear that if I do this what consequences I have to face, if strict laws and punishment given to the doers than only that fear will spread and it will help to avoid crimes, and may our girls women can be safe, That also I cannot tell 100%.
Day by day evil is increasing, everyone want freedom in new age world, whatever come in mind want to take step.
So women's or girls has to be think about safety and must try to take care self avoiding alone in lonely and dark places, must not give chance to take advantage. These days' animals are better than humans. Once everyone like Mangalore because it was peaceful and now it is mostly like evil. I miss that olden days
