Beltangady: Man ends life after daughter marries against his wishes

Daijiworld Media Network - Beltangady

Beltangady, Jul 10: A man allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison, as his daughter reportedly married against his wishes.

The body of Anthony K J (45), resident of Kuntady Mane, Thotathadi here, was found on Thursday July 10 in a forest.

It is said that Anthony had been missing since Wednesday July 9 morning. His brother's son filed a complaint with Beltangady police, after which a search operation was launched. The body was found in a forest area.

Sources said that Anthony's daughter had gone missing since July 5 and he had filed a complaint. He later learnt that she had eloped and married a person named Lawrence. Anthony had reportedly objected to the match, and saddened by her daughter's action, he allegedly went into the forest and consumed poison.

Anthony's daughter is pursuing nursing studies in Mangalore, sources said.

Apart from his daughter, Anthony is survived by two sons. The daughter is the eldest among the siblings.

Beltangady police have registered a case.

I feel pity on the girl. As long as she is in this marriage, she would be reminded ever about her Father's death.
May God give her courage to live happily forgetting the incident.

Being a parents mostly all parents are dreaming about children's good feature, well being, happiness, and she is only girl in family, pursuing nursing studies not yet finish, eloped with married person. (Has to wait until finish her studies) may its wrong time, wrong step may with wrong man. May she will regret later, its too late. its Blind love.
I don’t think anyone want only daughter to marry a married man? Loving father was painful, thinking about this may he depressed, no patience, no peace, bothered about daughter' feature may don’t have strength to face society, took the wrong step .

It is a father's mistake to take away his own life.

Girl married in her own caste i meant it is not a inter-caste marriage. Religion is Catholic/Christian.

One should give space in life. Father must have had a big ego & hence he could not bear.

Modernization doesn't mean do what you want because you are educated. Family is also important for a healthy society. Marrying with a proper way is also important because its the union of families also. At this age love will be at peak and you wont understand reality of life. but as the time passes you will feel somewhere you are alone and when you look back to your parents they are not there to listen to you. So Generation next dont think that your parents are fools and you are very educated so you can win the world tomorrow. You can see number of educated couples ending their life though they have good salary but the lack of real love makes them to do so. What is the use of winning your love and loosing your family. So convince them. They wont understand immediately but it will take a little more time.till their be patient to understand their feelings also. You wont understand their feelings until your son/daughter do the same to you. What you do with them your kids will do with you. Thats nature

with out knowing the complete story we can't derive anything. yes, if he Lawrence is a good chap and settled guy, yes, father can compromise with his daughter's decision. many a times , these girls will become blind. I have seen an instance in one of the known family where girl's family is so well settled, parents dreaming a lot on their daughter's future. but one fine day they found their daughter ran away with a neighbour, got married and returned. Unfortunately that guy is road care chap with out any job, still struggling for his daily bread. Just imagine the condition of the parents. So, in this incident also, unless we know the complete content can not comment anything firm. But yes, suicide might not be the solution for this. Pity on Antony. RIP.

If a Girl liked her choice mate and wish to live a peaceful life with whom she wants, Let her live. Say a Boy is Bad or a Girl is Bad., Even then life teaches lessons at its own time and everything will be normal if at-least one among the couple is alright. The Girl has to life her entire life with the guy with whom she shall marry and so she has every right for her major opinion. Parents direction may give a better opinion (as elders) But even then As long as the bonding between the two is good, parents should accept their child's happiness. If the Parents know the relation is really not good as it may not long last in future (if seem to be like) Then , Parents should discuss friendly with their children about their opinion and the reasons by being calm and not showing their power. This transparency will definitely filter all errors. More over Prayers have become less in families which could certainly give lot more Peace.

A sad tragedy and I understand the feeling of the father when the daughter defy the same father who took all pain to raise her up.
    RIP!
Is suicide a solution to the problem. Please be brave and face the situation whatever terrible or humiliating that may be but never give a short cut to the situation by ending one's life.
Ups and downs are parts of this journey called life so face it rather than running away from it.

Anthony's pain and anger would have been understood had his daughter married a person from different community. What is wrong marrying a person from same community? Arranged marriages in our community are a thing of the past. For the children of modern generation parents can only give guidance, children must be allowed to take their decisions

Free mind does't work here. Our India is different.Because of cast and religion it doesn't work here.Even grudge works here.
Once the girl is pregnant the lover boy pushes here to her parents for delivery and naming ceremony because her in law put pressure on their son.The boy always takes the girl for a ride called love. The girls parents understand what love is and seeing around they can't digest the chalu of the boy.The respect is lost they kill them self or it's a honor killing.

Dear Anand kuman, before blaming a girl's father, you should know the culture & family respect not only for society cause many people live life for noble reason not for the sake of as life ends according to age. So those people whether rich or poor no compromise these things. You mentioned achievement, what will you achieve just for eating and taking life as it is..........

yes, Dax, I absolutely agree with you for bringing meaning of life. But in above Anand kumar comments as used word stupid for lost life & asking achievement, the comment supports the people live only for personal lust and favour, you can find youths having physical relation before marriage with own siblings, it is much in modern families.
