Mangalore, Jul 9: Hours after a young girl committed suicide by jumping off a bridge at Gurpur, a similar incident was reported at Netravati bridge here late evening on Wednesday July 9. In this case, the deceased was a 60-year-old man.
The elderly man's identity is not yet known.
It is said that he was dressed in white and came walking to the Netravati bridge, and jumped into the river.
On seeing him jump off, commuters who were passing by the bridge stopped their vehicles and rushed to his rescue. However, due to heavy rain, it became difficult to get into the water.
The locals did not give up despite the pouring weather, and in about 30 minutes, managed to bring the man out of the water. But by then, the man had already breathed his last.
As commuters stopped their vehicles and curious locals gathered in large numbers, the traffic was affected for sometime.
Ullal police have registered a case.
