Kundapur, Jul 9: In an incident which occurred near Japti village off Basrur in the taluk on Tuesday July 8, a python, which had swallowed a big animal and therefore, had been unable to move, was found lying in a thicket. The villagers then rescued the python with the assistance of forest department officials, and released it into the sanctuary.
The python had gobbled up an antelope or some such animal entirely, and hence because of the size of the prey, had been unable to move. A local saw the huge python lying in a small canal located in a thicket by the edge of the forest here. A large number of villagers rushed to the spot thereafter to see the python.
The information was then conveyed to forest officials. Forest guards, Karunakar, Shivakukumar, Babu and Somashekhar, arrived on the spot, and took steps for rescuing and releasing the giant reptile into the forest, with help from villagers, Dinesh Herikere, Basrur Pius, and others. The python was released into the forest area at Halakki near Ampar in the taluk.
