Alva arrived at Town Hall in Gandhinagar with Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel, Assembly Speaker Vaju Vala and Gujarat High Court Chief Justice Bhaskar Bhattacharya.

Gujarat government Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha read out the warrant of appointment by the President of India that she has been appointed as Gujarat Governor, in addition to her current charge as Rajasthan Governor.
Later, Chief Justice Bhattacharya administered the oath to Alva at the ceremony attended by several Gujarat ministers and top officers.

Alva has been appointed in place of former Gujarat Governor Kamla Beniwal, who had frosty relations with former Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.

Beniwal was transferred to Mizoram in a reshuffle of Governors effected by the government yesterday.
During her interaction with reporters after the ceremony, Alva expressed happiness that Gujarat has a woman Chief Minister and issues that needed focus.

"It's a matter of great joy that Gujarat has a woman Chief Minister. I will come here whenever needed to contribute as Governor," Alva said.

"Our country is very vast and every state has its own set of problems. Gujarat is a developed state. However, like other parts of country, there are some areas where we need to focus, such as shortage of teachers. Another problem is doctors unwilling to serve in villages," she said.

It is a matter of joy and pride that Ms. Margaret Alva has been honoured and made a Governor of Gujarat in addition to her current responsibility as The Governor of Rajasthan.

Ms. Alva has brought honour not only to her family but indeed also to Mangalore.

Undoubtedly she will function well in Gujarat as she has the aptitude to produce quality work.

I join several others in saying kudos to Margaret. May her term be a long one and may she do well in her new assignment.

This shows the true nature of Modi and his respect for age.

Kamla Beniwal was 87 years old, she had just 3 months left as Gujarath Governor, Modi did not enjoy a good relationship with her when he was CM. So for just 3 months he transfers a 87 year old lady to Mizoram as a punishment transfer. She would have gone as governor within 3 months, was there a need to humiliate a 87 year old woman with a punishment transfer like this, Modi is vindictice

I do not know why BJP is suddenly liking Margeret Alva now. I am not sure what her achievement was in her political career so far, I really do not see anything other than being a sycophant of the Gandhi dynasty much like Oscar is.

Let us give him credit for the Konkan Railway project.Except that as Defence Minister he was tainted with the coffin scam during the Kargil conflict.

In the 1970's he brought the country to a grind halt with the famous Railway strike and the death of L.N.Mishra, Railway Minister in a bomb blast. One cannot hold the country to ransom.

Congratulations Margaret Alva for you are being given additional charge as Gujarat Governor.
Taking up shortage of teachers and doctors unwilling to serve in Gujarat villages is good move to reduce rich poor gap.
However why bring Men & Women kind of issues to the fore like Gujarat has a Woman Chief Minister?
She is C.M. for her she has ability. That should be the criteria over gender preference!
India had a longest serving woman P.M.
