Kasargod, Jul 7: A racket involved with the theft of cattle has been busted by Kumble police. A team of policemen from the station, led by police sub-inspector, Jacob, arrested two alleged cattle thieves in an operation conducted on Sunday July 6.
The police also confiscated a car and an auto rickshaw from the possession of arrested persons. The arrested men have been identified as Nassar (32) from Kumble Arikkad, and Ismail (40), a native of Mangalore.
The police recovered two goats, which were allegedly stolen by them, from their possession. The police said that these two were involved with several cases of cattle thefts earlier.
A night patrol party of police stopped an auto rickshaw near Peruvadu petrol bunk near Kumble, and inspected the vehicle. They found that the said goats were being transported in the three-wheeler. Reportedly, the two men confessed to having stolen these goats, during questioning. The police then impounded a car that was following the auto rickshaw as escort vehicle.
During further questioning, the accused are said to have confessed to the police that they were involved with several cases of cattle theft in the past. On being produced in the court, both of them were remanded to judicial custody. The police said they intend to seek police custody of the accused, as they want to interrogate them further and get details of other thefts involving them.
