Bantwal, Jul 2: Taluk panchayat member, Dinesh Amtoor, has alleged that people are suffering unnecessarily due to the fact that a 100-metre stretch of Tarabari road, which connects Amtoor, Sajipamunnur and Sajipamooda villages remains to be asphalted because of the objections raised by a Congress worker.
'This road has served as an important link for the people living in these villages since the last over two centuries. Thousands of people including students and employed ones are using this road every day, and hundreds of vehicles depend on this road to reach their destinations. A local Congress activist named Sharat has suddenly claimed the land through which this road passes as his own. As a result, a 100 metres stretch of this road has not been asphalted. On account of this, this portion of the road has been turning slushy and looks like agricultural field during the rainy season, proving to be nightmarish for two-wheelers,' he complained.
He pointed out that several persons had been graceful enough to donate their land for reconstruction of broken minor bridge under NABARD scheme and for road development in this area. He expressed anger at the fact that the stubbornness of one person has robbed thousands of people of the comfort of having a smooth raid.
Former MLA, K Padmanabha Kottary, visited this disputed stretch of the road on Tuesday evening. He informed that assistant commissioner from Mangalore would be inspecting the area on Wednesday. In addition to Amtoor, dignitaries like Chandrashekhar Tailor, Amtoor gram panchayat member, Gopal Poojary, and others were present.
