Mumbai, Jul 29: Kateel Shekhar Kotian, owner of Sai Leela Family Restaurant and Bar at Vasai here, escaped a bid on his life on Friday, Jul 28 evening.
A group of three men made a vain attempt to shoot him down but Kotian narrowly escaped. As the culprits were fleeing after the failed attempt, some locals and restaurant employees managed to catch hold of one of them, while the other two escaped. The nabbed assailant has been handed over to the police.
Inspector K Marbulkar of Vasai West police station has seized a revolver from the arrested person and investigating the matter further.
Hailing from the famed pilgrimage centre of Kateel near Mangalore, Kotian a senior hotelier and restaurater in Vasai. An active social worker, he owns Sai Leela and Liberty restaurants and bar. Having travelled widely abroad, he has maintained good relationship with social and political leaders, which has made him quite popular.
He also holds posts in various organizations like as president of Vasai Karnataka Sangha and Shri Shanishward Pooja Samiti, honorary secretary of the Vasai Taluka Hotels Association and the Karnataka Cooperative Credit Society LTd, vice president of Shri Guru Narayana Seva Samiti - Vasai and public relations officer of Lions Club, Vasai.
