Mangalore: Major fire breaks out in shop at Karangalpady

Mangalore, Jul 1: A major fire broke out at a scrap dealer's shop at Karangalpady here on Tuesday July 1.

The shop belongs to Ibrahim Salim from Ullal.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, but it is suspected that it might have been due to a short circuit.

Luckily, no one was in the shop when the incident took place. However, two adjacent houses were said to have been damaged.

As soon as the fire was noticed, residents of nearby Sunflower Apartments rushed to help with large hoses and fire extinguishers and helped in preventing the fire from spreading.

Three fire engines rushed to spot and after much effrots, succeeded in dousing the fire.

The extent of loss is not yet known.

Kadri police led by inspector T D Nagaraj arrived at the spot and registered a case.

    I am somebody who lives in the same locality and I know how hardworking these guys are and are doing an excellent business.
    Its really sad the way people are commenting here its done on purpose,why it happened at night,insurance claims and stupidity..These are not multi crore businessmen who will do it at there livelihood cost.
    The problem with our Mangalore people is some of us are educated but only in certificates..internally at heart we are uncivilized who judge people based on religions,castes,names etc.
    If you cant sympathize for the loss bearer at least dont talk as if he was doing some wrong business there..

    Why the short circuit appears only at night when everybody left from the work. Short circuit appears generally when there is a load in the plug/port. The question here is how could possible to get short-circuit when there is no work, no load-shed in the particular shop on that night?
