Bangalore, Jul 1: In a shocking incident, a man who repeatedly expressed anger against his wife for giving birth to female children, hacked two daughters to death in a fit of rage on the night of Monday June 30. The third daughter survived with serious injuries.
Ramesh from Nidsale village in Tumkur had married Gowramma from Chennai about 16 years back. The couple got three daughters, Monica (9), Monisha (11), and the third one , Dharani, aged 14. The couple lives at Tunganagar near Byadarahalli on Magadi Road here. Ramesh, who tried to flee after committing this crime, was arrested by the policemen of Tavarekere station.
Ramesh, who was an auto rickshaw driver, could not achieve much financial progress because of his drinking addiction. In order to tide over poverty, he sold his auto recently, and started working in a factory. Gowramma used to work as maid in some houses. Ramesh, who appeared to be suffering from frustration and bouts of depression on account of poverty, often fought with his wife for giving birth to female children.
On Monday evening, at around 6 pm, Ramesh fought with wife after coming home drunk. Gowramma reportedly threatened him of committing suicide if he continued to harass her. When Gowramma went out briefly thereafter, Ramesh, inebriated at the time, suddenly attacked his three daughters with a thick sickle. Monica and Monisha, who suffered deep injuries to stomach, neck, and head, died on the spot. Developing cold feet at this sudden development, Ramesh came out and tried to lock the door and flee. But the owner of their house, as well as wife, Gowramma, both of whom arrived there, got suspicious at the sight of blood-stained clothes of Ramesh. Gowramma snatched key of the lock from husband, went in, and called neighbours and the police. The policemen carried Dharani to a hospital for first aid, after which, she was taken to Victoria Hospital for advanced treatment.
The girls were students of fourth, sixth, and ninth standards. The neighbours said Ramesh often turned wild for not having a male child, and expressed suspicion that he would have killed his daughters because of this rage.
