Bangalore, Jun 30: Thirteen Capuchin brothers along with two brothers of Third Order Regular (TOR) and one Benedictine were raised to the order of clerics as they were ordained as deacons by Dr Bernard Moras, the Archbishop of Bangalore. The joyful event took place during the Holy Mass at 3:30 pm, in the chapel of Darshan Institute of Theology, Kengeri, Bangalore on Sunday June 29.
Fr Dolphy Pais, the provincial minister of Capuchins belong to the Holy Trinity Province, Karnataka, Fr Alwyn Dias, vicar provincial, Fr Wilson, TOR provincial delegate, and Fr Xavier, the prior of Ashirvanam, the Benedictine Monastery and many more priests and religious enhanced the charm and beauty of the celebration.
Brs Salvadore D'Cunha, Amar Anthony Lobo, Naveen Joseph Sequeira are from Perpetual Succour Church Koppa, Br Andrew Jayaraj belongs to St Joseph’s Cathedral Chikmagalur, Br Poul Karun Mascarenhas is from Our Lady of Victories Church Balehonnur, Br John Zodhusanga is the parishioner of St Francis of Assisi Church Durtlang, Br Peter Lalrammuana hails from St Mary’s Church Aizawl, Br Prashanth Walter D’ Souza belongs to St Peter Claver Church Arva, Br Ravi Rajesh Serrao is from St Raphael Church Badyar, Br Frolic Fernandes belongs to St Lawrence Church Moodubelle, Br Praveen Stephen D’ Souza is from St Joseph’s Church Belman, Br Preetham Rayan Mendonca belongs to Our Lady of Fatima Church Pernal, Br Prakash Melwyn Colaco hails from St Francis Xavier Church Udyavar.
The Brothers belonging to TOR are Br Thomas Tudu from St Francis Church Gokhla, Orissa and Br Sarat Kumar Nayak from St Peter’s Church Mohana, Orissa. Br Mourice Kullu, Majhapara, Orissa was the only Benedictine who also received the grace to be the ordained minister of the Word.
The Archbishop in his message called upon the newly ordained deacons “to believe what they read, teach what they believe and practice what they teach”. He further urged them to be steadfast to Jesus Christ after the example of Sts Peter and Paul who imitated Christ even to the point of dying a martyr’s death. By quoting the words of St Francis of Assisi, “Always proclaim the Gospel and only if necessary use words” he wished them all good.
After the Holy Eucharist, a short felicitation was organized for the newly ordained deacon brothers, Fr Jossy Fernandes, rector of Darshan Institute of Theology, Kengeri, Bangalore, welcomed the gathering and Dr Bernard Moras the Archbishop of Bangalore, and Fr Joseph Dolphy Pais, congratulated the brothers on this special occasion and Deacon Br Walter D’Souza, representing the Deacons, thanked the gathering.
