Mangalore, Jun 28: Mangalore Round Table-115 and Mangalore Ladies Circle-82 on Saturday June 28 donated a dialysis machine to Wenlock Hospital in a ceremony at Hotel Gateway here.

State minister for health and family welfare, U T Khadar inaugurated the programme by lighting the auspicious lamp along with other esteemed guests MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, mayor Mahabala Maarla, Dr Rajeshwari, district medical officer, Wenlock, Dane D’Souza, chairman, MRT 115, Sharol Pinto, chairman, MLC 82, Naveen Cardoza, Loveline D’Souza and others.

The machine was symbolically handed over by Dane D’Souza to U T Khadar, who in turn handed it over to Dr Rajeshwari, thus officially launching the new dialysis treatment unit in Wenlock.

Speaking after the inauguration, U T Khadar said, "The social and educational help rendered by these two associations towards the society is really laudable, and their commitment is also high. All the members are dedicated towards the society and their hardwork along with guidance of the elders has enabled them to achieve their goals."

He added, "Dialysis is the need of the hour and recognising this need, the two associations have donated the machine to the society. The government hospital will maintain it in the best way possible. A government medical college will come up in Mangalore soon and we are all working for it."

He also said that the youths should be focused and carve a good future for themselves and for society at large by making use of their education for good causes.

He added that they should try to prevent major problems in society rather than just finding ways to cure them.

"A dialysis unit will soon be set up in Puttur as well for the convenience of the people there," he said, urging the associations to focus on the improvement of rural areas.

Captain Ganesh Karnik said, "Health care is one of the major concerns in the development of a nation. Poor people are unable to afford multi-specialty treatments. But we are proud that Wenlock and Lady Goshen are the best managed among all the government hospitals in the state."

"We must help the society to make a good use of education. We must create awareness to bring about an educational revolution in the society. I will donate another machine to Wenlock hospital," he said.

He added, "Like the dialysis machine which purifies blood, Mangalore Round Table and Mangalore Ladies Circle are machines that purify the society."

Mayor Mahabala Maarla and Dr Rajeshwari also spoke on the occasion and conveyed their best wishes to MRT and MLC.

Sharol Pinto proposed the vote of thanks.

Next, when a poor patient goes to Wenlock for dialysis the stereo-type answers will be as follows:
1)Govt has given the machine but they have not provided trained operator.
2)OR they will say Operator is on leave or he himself is not well,
3)OR they will say Dialysis machine is out of order and we have called the Company Engineers from Bangalore or Mumbai to repair it.

So ultimately the poor patient has to go to costly private Hospital as usual.
My poor relative in Belgaum had similar experience in Belguam Govt Hospital.
