Kasargod, Jun 27: In a tragic incident, two youngsters met watery grave while bathing in a pond near Mavinakatte at Badiadka here on Friday June 27.
The deceased have been identified as Abdul Waris (16), son of Abdul Khader and Jameela, and Sadique (17), son of Abdul Rehman Meenatipalla and Ayesha.
On Friday evening, Waris and Sadique had gone to a pond located in a government land at Pallattamoole near Mavinakatte. It is said that while the two were in the water, Waris got pulled in by the current. Noticing that Waris was in trouble, Sadique swam to his rescue, but he too got swept away towards the deep end and both the boys drowned in no time.
The locals on hearing about the incident rushed to the spot along with Badiadka and Kasargod town police and began searching for the two boys. Fire personnel arrived from Kasargod after long efforts that lasted for hours together, managed to retrieve the bodies.
The bodies were shifted to Kasargod general hospital and handed over to the families after post-mortem.
Abdul Waris leaves behind his parents, and siblings Samas, Mohammed Haris, Iyaz, Itwana, Sufiana, Safwan and Ijlana.
Sadique, apart from his parents, is survived by his siblings Sirajuddin, Shiab, Zakir, Sameera, Safna and Samshina.
