Sullia, Jun 27: Two persons were injured, one of them seriously, after two motor bikes collided with each oher in front of the government bus stand at Subrahmanya on the evening of Thursday June 26.
A jeep which ferries passengers between Subrahmanya and Kadaba had taken in enough passengers for beginning its journey towards Kadaba. As the jeep was parked in the middle of the road, a motor bike moving from car street towards the bus stand moved aside to avoid hitting the jeep standing there. At that time, a motor bike that was moving at considerable speed from Kashikatte towards car street hit the other motor bike.
Rider of the motor bike coming from Kashikatte, identified as Subrahmanya Bhat, fell to the ground and suffered critical injuries to his head. The car and jeep owners on the spot admitted him to the local hospital, and then to a hospital in Mangalore as the nature of his injuries were serious. Rider of the other bike, Manjunath Arampady, was also injured but the nature of his injuries was minor.
Several locals criticized jeeps which commute between the temple town and other far-flung areas, carrying passengers, of indiscipline and haphazard parking. They said that the road in front of the bus stand has turned into an accident prone zone because of the erratic jeeps, and urged the local police to take suitable action.
A report about the accident was registered in Subrahmanya police station.
